A year after voters in Colorado’s urban counties approved wolf reintroduction, state wildlife officials are working on a plan to bring gray wolves back to the Western Slope by the end of 2023. But the wolves are not waiting. 

A North Park rancher last month found one of his heifers killed by wolves, marking the first wolf predation of livestock in more than 70 years. Colorado Sun reporter David Gilbert spoke with that rancher, whose concerns closely mirrored those seen during the election and in early surveys by wildlife managers.
