It’s been 12 days since the most destructive fire in Colorado history tore through Boulder County and destroyed more than 1,000 homes, businesses and other structures. Residents of Superior and Louisville are only at the beginning of a long journey to recovery. 

To figure out what will happen next in terms of rebuilding, reporter Tamara Chuang went back to 2012, to the Waldo Canyon fire that devastated neighborhoods west of Colorado Springs and destroyed 347 homes. She talked to people who lived in the Mountain Shadow subdivision to find out how they recovered from the fire – and a decade later – what their lives are like now.
