In Hour 3 of the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show, Buck Sexton hosts the program solo and focuses on a mix of foreign policy, American politics, free speech, higher education, election analysis, anti-Semitism, and listener interaction. The hour opens with what Buck describes as a major foreign policy success for the Trump administration: the release of American citizen Stephen Hubbard, a retired teacher who had been detained by Russian authorities after being captured in Ukraine during the Russia-Ukraine war. Buck discusses the background of Hubbard’s detention, the circumstances surrounding his conviction by a Russian court, and President Donald Trump’s efforts to secure his release through direct engagement with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He argues that the successful return of Hubbard demonstrates Trump’s effectiveness in international negotiations and highlights broader themes of American strength and diplomacy.

The discussion then expands into a broader examination of authoritarian governments and the risks facing Americans traveling abroad. Drawing upon his own intelligence community background, Buck explains why he avoids traveling to countries such as Russia and China, citing concerns about arbitrary detention, political leverage, and limited legal protections. He compares the treatment of foreign detainees in adversarial nations with protections available under the American legal system, arguing that despite domestic political disagreements, the United States remains substantially freer and more accountable than many authoritarian regimes. The conversation touches on political prisoners, diplomatic negotiations, hostage diplomacy, international relations, and concerns about government overreach in countries where individual rights are limited.

Buck also spends considerable time discussing the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and the challenges involved in negotiating a ceasefire or peace settlement. He examines Russia’s strategic calculations, Ukraine’s defense efforts, the role of European military support, and the Trump administration’s emphasis on encouraging European nations to shoulder more responsibility for regional security. Buck argues that although ending the war remains difficult, progress in diplomatic discussions combined with burden-sharing from NATO allies reflects a shift in the international approach to the conflict.

Following listener talkbacks and lighter commentary about Buck’s ongoing balcony gardening hobby and Home Depot adventures, the program turns back to politics. Listener responses focus on voter enthusiasm in Texas and expectations surrounding the 2026 midterm elections. Buck discusses reports of high turnout, particularly among conservative voters, and expresses confidence in Republican prospects in major statewide races while emphasizing the importance of voter participation in battleground contests across the country.

A major segment of Hour 3 features an extended interview with Shabbos Kestenbaum of PragerU, a former Democrat and Jewish activist known for his lawsuit against Harvard University following the October 7 attacks in Israel. The conversation explores rising anti-Semitism, campus politics, ideological shifts within the Democratic Party, and international protests connected to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Kestenbaum argues that support for the Palestinian cause has evolved into what he calls an “omnicause” movement, connecting activists across numerous progressive causes and ideological groups. He discusses protests in Europe and the United States, examining how pro-Palestinian activism has become intertwined with broader social and political movements.

The interview also delves deeply into Michigan politics and the closely watched Senate race involving Abdul El-Sayed and Republican candidate Mike Rogers. Kestenbaum argues that the Michigan contest is one of the most significant races of the 2026 election cycle, framing it as a broader test of whether progressive and Democratic Socialist-aligned candidates can remain competitive in swing states. Buck and Kestenbaum discuss voting trends among Jewish Americans, the impact of concerns about anti-Semitism on electoral behavior, and whether traditionally Democratic constituencies may be shifting toward Republican candidates or withholding support from progressive nominees. The conversation examines evolving political coalitions, voter realignment, and the influence of Middle East policy on domestic elections.

Another major topic centers on younger voters and digital political influencers. Buck asks Kestenbaum about the popularity of online progressive commentator Hasan Piker among Generation Z audiences. Their discussion focuses on social media influence, political radicalization, economic anxiety, campus culture, and ideological messaging targeted at younger Americans. Kestenbaum argues that many younger voters are frustrated by issues such as affordability, loneliness, and institutional distrust, while also criticizing universities for promoting political viewpoints rather than encouraging independent thought and debate.

The interview concludes with Kestenbaum recounting his own transition from Democratic politics to conservatism. He explains how experiences at Harvard, exposure to ideological debates, and reactions to the October 7 attacks influenced his political views. Buck and Kestenbaum also discuss political polarization, free speech, academic culture, and the future of conservative outreach to younger voters.

In the final segment of the hour, Buck returns to election analysis, predicting Republicans are likely to retain control of the Senate while acknowledging that control of the House remains less certain. He discusses government spending, inflation, the national debt, and economic concerns that continue to influence voter sentiment. Listener calls from Ohio and elsewhere revisit topics including the Ohio governor’s race, campaign advertising, voter behavior, and Republican electoral prospects. The program closes with reflections on grassroots political engagement, listener participation, and Buck’s recurring theme of balcony gardening, providing a lighter ending to an hour otherwise dominated by serious discussions of foreign affairs, elections, higher education, and political realignment.
