Hour 3 of The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show featured a wide-ranging mix of political analysis, election strategy, international economics, technology policy, media criticism, and cultural commentary, with a major emphasis on the rapidly approaching 2026 midterm elections. The hour opened with an in-depth interview with Senator Dave McCormick, who discussed the national political landscape less than a month before Election Day. McCormick argued that Republican success will ultimately depend on voter turnout rather than polling, highlighting what he described as key accomplishments of President Donald Trump and Republican leadership, including border security, reductions in fentanyl deaths, domestic energy production, manufacturing growth, and foreign investment flowing into the United States. He also contended that Republicans must clearly define Democratic candidates and policies for voters as control of Congress hangs in the balance.

A significant portion of the interview focused on artificial intelligence, data centers, and technology regulation. McCormick explained a bipartisan opinion piece he recently authored with Pennsylvania Democratic Senator John Fetterman, arguing that AI presents both extraordinary opportunities and serious risks. The conversation explored concerns about job displacement, wealth concentration, national security, biotechnology threats, and America's competition with China in the AI race. McCormick advocated for what he described as common-sense oversight, responsible industry standards, and policies designed to ensure that AI innovation benefits American workers and communities while maintaining U.S. technological leadership. The discussion also touched on growing debates surrounding data center construction and public concerns about AI development.

The hosts and McCormick then turned their attention to the evolving political position of Senator John Fetterman. McCormick praised Fetterman’s willingness to break with his party on certain issues and discussed speculation about whether Fetterman could eventually become an independent or even align with Republicans. While emphasizing that Fetterman remains a Democrat, McCormick noted that the Pennsylvania senator has increasingly clashed with members of his own party and remains more popular among many Republican voters than among parts of the Democratic base. The conversation highlighted Pennsylvania’s history of electing officials from both parties and the state’s reputation for rewarding candidates viewed as authentic and independent-minded.

The interview also examined Pennsylvania’s growing role as an economic and manufacturing hub. McCormick detailed his recent trip to Japan and South Korea, where he met with executives and investors connected to major projects in Pennsylvania. He highlighted investments by Nippon Steel and Hanwha, discussing steel production, shipbuilding expansion, energy infrastructure, defense manufacturing, and job creation. The hosts explored how international investment, domestic energy resources, workforce development, and technological innovation are helping position Pennsylvania as a key battleground not only politically but economically. The broader discussion framed these developments within America’s competition with China for industrial and technological leadership.

Election politics remained front and center throughout the interview as McCormick discussed several competitive Pennsylvania congressional races that could decide control of the U.S. House of Representatives. He specifically referenced contests involving Scott Perry, Rob Bresnahan, Ryan Mackenzie, and Brian Fitzpatrick, stressing the importance of turnout operations, grassroots activism, fundraising, and Republican voter participation. McCormick argued that congressional control will significantly influence the future of President Trump’s agenda and warned that a Democratic-controlled Congress would focus on investigations and opposition to Republican initiatives.

The hosts briefly revisited speculation surrounding former Vice President Kamala Harris and the 2028 presidential race. When asked whether Harris would run again, McCormick said he hoped she would, arguing that her previous political positions and public statements proved advantageous for Republican campaigns in Pennsylvania. The discussion reinforced themes from earlier hours regarding Democratic Party leadership, messaging challenges, and the party’s direction moving toward the next presidential election cycle.

Later in Hour 3, Clay and Buck discussed reports involving Representative Ilhan Omar and a federal search warrant executed at her Washington residence. Clay argued that the most significant aspect of the story was a federal judge’s approval of the warrant, emphasizing that investigators were required to demonstrate sufficient evidence to justify the search. The hosts noted that many details remain unknown pending further legal developments and stressed that the investigation remains ongoing.

The second major guest of the hour was political commentator and podcast host Liz Wheeler. A lengthy conversation focused on what the hosts called the “Cornell Seven” controversy. Wheeler argued that newly released text messages and evidence surrounding the case contradict earlier allegations and suggested that some media outlets have become less willing to discuss the story as additional details emerged. The discussion expanded into broader cultural debates regarding consent, campus culture, personal responsibility, media narratives, and how politically charged stories are covered in the modern news environment.

The conversation with Wheeler also examined comedian Shane Gillis’s recent Saturday Night Live appearance and the controversy surrounding his monologue. Wheeler argued that political comedy frequently generates backlash when it targets progressive cultural norms, while the hosts suggested the reaction reflected ongoing divisions over free speech, humor, satire, and political correctness. The discussion tied into a broader examination of entertainment, media criticism, and how comedians navigate increasingly polarized audiences.

Midterm election strategy returned as Wheeler discussed Republican prospects in the 2026 elections. She expressed optimism about continued Republican voter engagement and praised the Trump administration’s policies on immigration and border enforcement. While acknowledging that historical trends often favor the party out of power during midterms, Wheeler argued that Republican voters remain highly motivated and suggested that immigration and public safety issues could play a major role in turnout and voter behavior.

The hosts and Wheeler also revisited the controversy surrounding Texas Senate candidate James Talarico and his recent absence from the campaign trail. Wheeler joined Clay and Buck in questioning the explanation that illness alone accounted for the candidate’s prolonged disappearance and noted that modern communication tools would have made it easy to provide voters with updates. The conversation evolved into criticism of Talarico’s political positions and broader discussion of transparency, candidate accountability, and ideological differences within the Texas Senate race against Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Toward the end of the hour, Wheeler and the hosts addressed the Lindsay Clancy case and broader cultural debates about feminism, responsibility, and media narratives surrounding women accused of crimes. The discussion connected those themes to earlier conversations about the Cornell controversy and examined how public discourse often treats accountability, victimhood, and agency in high-profile cases involving women.

The final segment shifted to lighter topics. Clay and Buck discussed Monday Night Football, with Clay previewing a matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams, before closing with cultural commentary tied to Columbus Day and additional discussion of Shane Gillis’s comedy. The hosts played clips from The Sopranos and Gillis’s monologue while reflecting on humor, social norms, gym culture, and the continued debate over what constitutes offensive comedy in contemporary America.
