Published Apr 30, 2024, 9:56 PM

After some surprising footage of a "Black Panther" wandering through a Victorian farm, we had to do a deep dive into the legend.

Are they real? Escaped WW2 mascots? Circus escapees? or just a BIG, BIG kitty.

If you have a sighting or a story to share about the mysterious Black Panther email us! christian@christianoconnell.com.au

Chest.

Yeah, welcome friends to the Christian O'Connell show podcast.

Have you guys actually watched the video of this panther? Yeah, that's batter right yesterday. It's not a cat, it's not a fat cat. It's a big panther.

That's the way it's moving to gliding.

Yeah.

Beautiful looking beast going through the just by grain silo, is it?

Yeah, it's taller than the grain.

It's huge, Patty. What do you know about this other rumor they escape from a traveling circus?

Oh?

Yeah, I have heard that version as well, But the army one's more more sort of grounded, I.

Think again, the second swing grounded.

In what I think? It's more reliable about the serviceman. It's more romantic.

Let face. I like that.

Yeah, I agree with that. Yes, so this is a TV show. That's the one they're filming, isn't it. Rather than escaping from the circus.

The traveling circuits could be panthers or cougars escape from a traveling circus.

Now, what's a cougar?

What do you mean?

Oh?

Come on, a little bit flamousy over there, and big cat desk by the way, what's going on?

Real? Okay? You're on the front line here for sightings. You keep sending the same thing.

They're not all different species of animals. They're just a panther is just like a black cougar or black mountain cap. There's not a panther that's like a separate species of animal Panthus.

But pas I did look at up pumas that are in South America, panthers in Africa, right, but you reckon, they're the same animal, just the same animal, different cotton Google.

Live right now? Where where are cougars from?

Get I made that mistake. Sometimes I saw some videos I had to watch for an hour.

A cougar's rain from northwestern Canada all the way down to Patagonia in South America.

And sometimes around base side or a Thursday night? Okay, did you make me do that? Just yeah, you're starting to learn real well done. So this morning on the show, please call nine four one four one oh four three if you see the panther of.

Balleries or if you've seen it in the past.

However, though, it won't just be yeah Christian, now.

I like that right now, flashback, Christian, if only you've been here last Thursday, so that that won't be the only.

One that's any cat, like, we don't want that one.

No, no, anything you suspect to have been. Okay, the puma, the panther and all of the above, but not not your household.

General sort of line now, non emergency number. It's the black cat Panther line. It's the panther hotline. That's what we want to notice. Is that's it?

Another live Google? Okay, I don't have a punchline for this one. But by the way, what is a group of panthers called.

Great Question Pride?

It's a book club that's cougar.

Okay, and what about cougars?

And then do oh doesn't sound like kittens on and stuff like that. Christian Connell's show podcast.

Situation black cat panther spotted in Ballarat yesterday. Been many sightings over the years. Perhaps he believes it may have gone back to American troops practicing over here with the tanks.

So it was a tank platoon that had them with their mascots of black panthers in the Texas Company. A Christian is from Simon Rose the Kiddel e eighties.

I'm convinced I saw a panther in my backyard. Opened the back door, saw it, it saw me. I was overcome by primordial fear I've never experienced. Quickly closed the door. Of course, no one believed.

Me, but to this day, hantst you know what you saw, we know what you saw, and you know who else knows that panther?

I wonder what area this was?

I tested? Yeah, I was living in time. Yeah, well we are now. I thought you're the journalist on the show. By the way, yeah, could you follow this one up? It's a it's a hot lead at.

The moment, where Patty, where are the ways? Because I'm saying Grampians, I'm seeing.

Bell I'm is down sort of more geelong.

Like towards the Great Ocean.

Roy around that.

These panthers are getting everywhere.

Yeah, they're everywhere, That's what I mean.

On the train where they go on like a panther.

Mikey cars easy to fit in that little poor is there?

That big old Paul? Sorry like that. It's easy just to put up, tap in, tap out. It's very good.

What do we think are the most powerful, deadliest big cats? Because what we're talking about here are the big cats.

But by the way, just before we get to that puma, panther, cougar are all the same animal, just called by different names in different areas.

What about a lynx and a jaguar? I don't know?

Different?

Yes?

Different?

Well this is smaller, isn't it? And a little different looking. Don't they have weird ears?

They like elf?

Yeah?

Yeah they do. But what about a jaguar?

Ye see that's like a puma.

Yeah that is that's a bloody I don't think it.

Jaguar might be the same bit with spots, whereas the others are black or brown.

The heavier I think they are. That's all I've got for you at the moment. What for jaguars, Yeah, jaguars are heavier than a cougar?

Oh all right? Real?

What is the strongest and most deadly out of all? But is it?

Is it the lion?

No?

The most deadly by bite force? Pap close? It is the jaguar.

You really thought it was? Yeah, remember David ATMRA episode. I know that they are. They are very deadly jaguar.

Yeah, face they coming at fifteen hundred psie. The tiger is next fifteen hundred.

What do you say about the panther? One hundred and twenty?

Yeah, about two hundred years one.

I notice that you've gone from the laptop which the company give you, now just going off your phone.

Yeah, it's this show now run off a producer's phone. The cut, cut and Jackie, you can have the city.

The company give us very cheap.

Where do they get those from? eBay?

They're basically like a glorified iPad. And I have to restart my computer about three times every show because it can't handle more than four.

Or five tabs just one basic commander.

Now go to printer.

I thought Line was the strongest of the cat king of the jungle.

Lines actually strangle their prey, I believe more than yes. And so they only come in at six hundred persiles.

All right, So where's the tiger?

Tiger is one thousand, so in between a Line and a jaguar. Still pretty good.

And where is our friend the panther.

The panther is down similar to a leopard at about three hundred two hundred to three hundred.

The reason when we talk about this, by the way, it just joined us there is there is It's a fact. Now, fat you're waking up to a brave new world where we welcome our new panther overlords that are roaming the streets. Now, okay, lock your doors, don't go to school. Today there was a black panther on the loose all over Melbourne.

We are very pro panther on this show for us and welcome.

Yes, we welcome our new panther overlords.

This is the Christian O'Connell show podcast. I just asked jat Post if it's any wild animal. He thought about for a second. They went possum then surround surrounding my house right now, wild animals. I need to get home, guys, and fight off save my family from those wild possibles.

I also said, a kidnap and they're spiky, so yeah, dangerous.

But we've just spent you know, a good twenty five minutes talking about panthers.

Humorous jaguars.

No, I got a good one. When Bianca and I were on our honeymoon. We went to Africa safari and you're in I love to do that, brilliant Honestly, one of the best experiences of our life.

Because you're in their habitat.

You're mostly in a van, and the animals don't see the van as a predator, so they just ignore the vans. But one day, we went out with this tracker on a walking safari, so you would use walking out in the MASSI mara. He's got a rifle in case anything comes at us. And we saw a buffalo, which I didn't even know was that deadly. You know, you're thinking of flyings and bright bozzo to Kidna's anything can kill you out there. But he said no, no, buffaloes will ram you and they can kill you with a head butt. So we saw a buffalo and he said, get down, crouched down because if they see a human silhouette they might come and ram us.

But friend, no, because he's to a honeymoon, doesn't it.

Guy with a South African accent he read, He was so casual about it. He's like, I just crouched down because as soon as we're crouching, they won't see us as a pressurer anymore.

It's got real bad eyesight. They so they can only see a human shape. That how did they eat?

So one second ago we were a human shape, but then we crouched down, and I guess they thought, all right.

Give us eyes a really bad or depth perceptions getting a lot worse.

All right, let's kind of pull in here.

Can she's seen this black cat that was sponsored yesterday around Banerat. A lot of people have claim to spot various black cats over thee around the Grampians and Ballarat.

Morning, Pauline, Morning, Christian, Patsy and Jack.

Hey, welcome to the show.

So you've actually seen what we're talking about black cat the panther.

Yes, yes, I did about forty five years ago.

Oh, Jack did ask for a very past one.

So that will accept any if you've seen that.

Now they're out there, especially from nineteen seventy nine. Okay, so take us back to nineteen seventy nine. Where were you.

My girlfriend and I were driving out in the middle of the bush in South Gippsland and we've been out to Ado and we're heading home and I saw something to the right and I thought it was a kangaroo. Next minute they're scene just jumped out, landed in the middle of the road and was just stood there and looked at us. And it was the biggest blackest It was a panther, I have no doubt in the world. And he just stood there and looked at us. We freaked and then.

In about five ten seconds it just walked off the road.

Like sauntered off like the do you know.

It was terror financially it's going to jump on the car?

How big do your head?

It was the size of a panther.

Jack, It was huge of a panther therefore exact, so there.

Was no mistaking excuse me that it wasn't a feral cat like it was obviously it wasn't no.

Way, patry, No, it was huge and I reckon it stood you know, its stall as the car. And there were actually rumors back then in regard to mascots that had been let freegard to that room that that's going around still now. Rumor was going around forty five years.

Ago, probably more recent than Yeah.

So I think these things have been around for probably a lot longer than what we realized.

And obviously, Pauline, they've been breeding.

There's a last troop of them this Yes, so this was in South Gippsland. So these things are obviously just getting around having balls both.

Yeah, all right, good on Youapauline, Thank you very much. Cool, take it easy, take care of me, cal a brighter, No, you're listening to the question of Carl Show podcast
