On this episode we have a recording of Saltwater Band playing live from this year’s Desert Harmony Festival in Tennent Creek.

Saltwater Band are an Indigenous roots band from Galiwin'ku on Elcho Island, around 560 kilometres from Darwin. The members are Yolngu and they sing mostly in Yolŋu Matha. Their songs are a mixture of traditional songs and reggae/ska influenced pop.

Their first album, Gapu Damurrun, sold more than 10,000 copies, setting a record for an independent Northern Territory act. In 2004 their second album Djarridjarri was nominated for Best World Music Album at the ARIA Music Awards and also received a Deadly Award for Album Release of the Year.

Join Cherice for a chat with Manuel Dhurrkay, the lead singer of the band while at Desert Harmony Festival and check out their energetic performance!
