Welcome to the 3rd episode of the **Bossed Up Mondays** podcast! In this episode, we dive into a serious discussion that we should be having nationally talking about trauma and Community healing with your host Laurie and Saskia Hostetler Lippy, MD, who is better known as Rocky. Rocky worked on the front lines and did some journalist activist work here in Oregon on gun violence as well as the Frontline medical work with demonstrators that were hurt during the crisis that happened during the pandemic in downtown Portland. She has seen trauma first hand on the front line as well as in her patients.

Episode Highlights:

Laurie Palmer has a very special guest on the show today. This guest Saskia Hostetler Lippy, MD, she is a writer, psychiatrist, and activist in Portland, Oregon. They call her Rocky because she's a fighter for the people. She is a member of the Portland Peace Team and a field reporter for the TRUST network. She noticed Mrs Palmer first at the gun violence Round Table speaking strongly about her community and the gun violence is happening in her community. And she couldn't help noticing this mother that had a son that had been shot six times still in the fight against gun violence many years later after her son had been laid to rest. Treat her so she set out to meet with her and here you have the two of them talking about healing. So they're going to talk about the healing Circle cuz Mrs Palmer made it very clear that there's trauma in their families that needs to be healed. Triple trauma generational trauma as well as trauma from gun violence and until that traumas addressed you will have gun violence.

Healing Circle works to end silence around issues of gun violence by promoting family  & community  strength, in these 4 areas; 1. Relationships, 2. Career, 3. Finances, 4 Spirituality are Affirmations

Each family, individual or youth will have life coaching with lived experience to educate them in the following areas as well as educate them on the grass root issues of gun violence.

What are Sole Survivor's mothers that have been affected by violence in Portland Oregon that have created Healing Circle?

Sole Survivors Healing Circle is an approach to violence that uses peacemaking circle techniques and restorative practices to bring individuals who have been affected by gun violence & domestic violence with willing family members, support persons, a trained professional facilitator, and community volunteers. The Circles carefully monitor the safety of the family, encourage dialogue about the incident(s), explore gender dynamics and uncover the family’s history of violence — all with the goal of creating meaningful change. The Sole Survivors Healing Circle model is flexible, culturally sensitive, and works with the criminal justice and child welfare system to bring about healing and transformation in individuals, families and communities.
