The Buddhist Hour

Our weekly Buddhist Hour program introduces you to some of the basic principles and teachings of Buddha Dhamma. or over 2,500 years Buddha Dhamma has helped people understand the causes needed for personal happiness. The Path taught by the Buddha comes from understanding the true nature of our mind. It offers us the opportunity to realise our innate wish to be happy and fulfilled. The Buddhist Hour offers our listeners practical guidance and instructions on how to apply the Buddha's teachings in our everyday lives with talks on Buddhist practice and application, chanting, news on teachings and upcoming meditation programs and special events. The Buddhist Hour is a production of the Buddhist Discussion Centre (Upwey). Our Centre was founded in 1978 by John D. Hughes as a not for profit self-help organization and was incorporated as a company in 1980. Located at 33 Brooking Street, Upwey Victoria, we are a home grown Australian Buddhist Temple, teaching from the main schools of Buddhism: Theravada, Mahayana, Vajrayana and Chan or Zen. Our Members practice the Six Perfections of: Generosity, Morality, Patience, Joyful Effort, Concentration and Wisdom, which are the principle areas that a person needs to cultivate within themselves to develop on the Buddha Dhamma path. In all our activities members practice the cultivation of our Five Styles: Friendliness, Practicality, Professionalism, Cultural Adaptability and Scholarship. Our Centre's key objectives are: • To introduce a philosophy of life based on Buddha Dhamma; • To encourage the study, practice and realization of Buddha Dhamma; • To preserve the Buddha Dhamma teachings; and • To promote activities associated with Buddha Dhamma and Buddhist Culture in Australia and overseas. We are one of over 160 Regional Centres of the World Fellowship of Buddhists; an Associated Institution of the World Buddhist University, a Member of the Buddhist Council of Victoria, and a Founding Member of the Ethnic Communities' Council of Victoria.
