The World Health Organization says cancer is the leading cause of death around the world. This year's theme for World Cancer Day (4 February) was 'Close the Care Gap'. It aims to highlight the huge inequalities in the prevention, detection and treatment of cancer.
The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) are calling on everyone to use their influence to help ‘close the gap in cancer care’.
People living with disabilities who face barriers to accessing health care for cancer diagnosis and treatment are part of the focus of World Cancer Day.
