Bongani Bingwa speaks to Thuto Vilakazi, co-organiser of the 4th edition of uManyano Lwe Jazz. The festival pays tribute to the visual language of South Africa’s iconic Sophiatown golden jazz era, “the Drum Decade”, while building a modern visual and archival record of the artists shaping South African jazz today. Featuring more than 20 performers over two days in Johannesburg, it promises a powerful journey of cultural revival and musical renaissance.
