The Bob Siegel Show

Bob discusses the Old Testament capital punishment laws showing how substitution penalties were sometimes permitted.

In addition to the question in the title, Bob responds to several people from recordings off Internet with unusual views of Scripture.

Bob talks about the time Jesus visited Jerusalem more discreetly.

Bob talks about the time when many of Jesus' followers turned away because His message got difficult. Jesus then asked His remaining disciples if they too wanted to leave.

Bob demonstrates from Scripture how Jesus' words intended as allegory have been taken literally by some in their beliefs about communion.

Bob refutes the popular talking point that the idea of the Trinity came up years later in church history and is not actually taught in the New Testament.

Bob begins by talking about the two miraculous incidents on the Sea of Galilee where Jesus walked on water and calmed the storm. He then goes on to talk about other kinds of storms, sometimes involving other people, that come up in our lives.

Bob explains how Jesus, in healing on the Sabbath, was not disobeying the actual written law of Moses, but rather, an oral tradition amongst the rabbis of his day. Bob then talks about whether the Biblical Sabbath is applicable for New Testament times.

Bob expounds upon Jesus' talk with the Samaritan woman in John 4, showing how a knowledge of the history and customs reveals more than meets the eye about the significance of this conversation. Bob then goes on to talk about the example Jesus showed regarding the use of tact during evangelism presentations.

Sometimes Jesus rebuked people when they asked for signs. At other times, He encouraged watching for signs. Bob examines several Bible passages to show when this is appropriate or inappropriate. Also: -Did the demonic world know ahead of time that Jesus would pay for our sins on the cross or were they surprised? -More responses to audio clips from skeptics

Bob's producer Brendan Thomas plays more audio comments of atheist attacks on the Bible from the Internet and Bob responds.

Starting with a rebuke from John the Baptist, Bob reviews Biblical commands about placing our trust in God rather than putting our human leaders on too high a pedestal.

Bob shows from Scripture how accepting Jesus is not mere intellectual belief but a response to the Spirit of God who makes Christ known.

Bob expounds upon the first conversation Jesus had with Nicodemus and the words "You must be born again." He then goes to other Scripture on the subject talking about our relationship with the Holy Spirit and the promise of a future resurrection in heaven.

Description: Bob traces the history of God's temples from the time of Solomon to the rebuilding after Jews returned from Babylon to the expansion under King Herod.

Bob discusses the implications of Jesus changing water into wine and then goes on to take additional Bible questions from listeners.

Was he Elijah returned? Why was Jesus baptized by John when Jesus had no sin to repent of? Does ancient history outside the New Testament corroborate the existence of John? Was John part of the Essene community?

While emphasizing friendliness and gentleness as a general rule in evangelism, Bob nevertheless points out the occasional exception to the rule called “tough love.”

Bob starts out by completing a discussion from last week about John's usage of the Greek word 'logos'. He then goes on to challenge the popular assumption that Jesus spoke Aramaic rather than Hebrew.

Bob explores the famous opening to John's gospel where Jesus, as the second person of the Trinity, is called "the WORD of God." Bob also expounds upon similar terminology in Old Testament divine encounters.

Bob answers a question about the possibility of life on other planets and how that would relate to biblical truth. Also: Did Moses really write the first five books of the Bible?-Why are there churches who reject biblical teaching?

If Can was the first child of Eve, why was he afraid that his banishment would bring him to other people? Where did these other people come from? Other Questions: Does the Book of Enoch belong in the Bible? Are Mormons true Christians?

In addition to the subject of tattoos, Bob takes other questions including what the Bible means by the term "Sons of God," and why Jesus needed to pray to the Father if they are co-equally God.

Bob’s producer Brendan plays more clips off the Internet, many from people who feel they have disproven the truth of Christianity and one from a liberal Christian who tries to defend open borders. Other subjects include questions such as, “If Jesus was co-equally God, why did He need to pray?”

Starting with Paul as an example, Bob discusses giving up things that in and of themselves may be good but should nevertheless be sacrificed for the greater good.

Bob goes through some passages in the New Testament where Paul gave advice on how to deal with questions such as whether or not it was permissible to eat meat that had once been sacrificed to pagan idols. This moves into a discussion of present day practices that Christians hold varying opinions about such as drinking alcohol, watching  R rated movies, etc.

Bob concludes a Bible study he began on last week’s show reconciling two sets of Bible verses supposedly in tension with each other, some describing the born again relationship with Jesus that can never be lost, others describing a temporary, probationary relationship.

Bob begins a talk about the question of eternal security which concludes next week. ALSO: A common atheist talking point claims that Hitler was a Christian. Bob responds.

Bob continues a discussion about the historicity of the resurrection, keying in today on Jewish and Roman witnesses! ALSO: From Bob’s diary of his trip to Israel: The ruins of Caesarea: How they speak volumes.

Bob puts forth a historical case for the resurrection of Jesus, showing how alternative explanations of his missing body fall short. Bob also provides evidence for the credibility and accuracy of the New Testament. ALSO: How do I know that when the chips are down, I will not let God down?

Clips from Bible skeptics and others who seek to re-interpret the Bible are played. Bob responds.

Bob comments on Paul's list of Christian virtues in Romans 12, showing what it meant to obey those in New Testament times and comparing it to today's church.

The Bible talks about a spiritual Israel (the church) but also teaches that God is not done with physical Israel. Bob explains.

Bob critiques the Five Points of Calvinism, a theology that teaches election and predestination. Bob shows how on some matters Calvinists are partially correct, but he also balances certain verses with a proper biblical context showing human free will.

Continuing from last week Bob  addresses questions about the way God is portrayed in each Testament.

Bob starts by talking about ancient adoption in the Roman world and how these images would have been in the minds of Christians when Paul wrote them and compared this to being adopted as children of God. ALSO: Bob answers a listener who does not like the way God is portrayed in Old Testament books such as Exodus.

Bob welcomes back Zak Kroger who came on his show often years ago for friendly discussion/debate about atheism, theism, and Christianity. They catch up on the latest trends in atheist organizations and the Evangelical movement. There is also some conversation about a case for the existence of God from the starting point of questioning the origin of human consciousness.

Bob discusses the sad idea held by some in the church that repentance from sin is not necessary for salvation and challenges this view with Scripture.

Bob explains (based on Romans 5) that what Adam did in the garden, any one of us would have done.

While acknowledging Paul's description of the church as the new Israel, Bob shows how Paul also reminded people that God still works with physical, national Israel.

Bob discusses the Biblical definition of sin and the origin of sin in a fallen world.

Bob concludes his talk from last week.

Bob begins a series showing Bible verses in tension with each other, some making it clear that we cannot lose our salvation, others suggesting that we can. ALSO: Bob addresses the outrageous but popular atheist talking point that Adolph Hitler was a Christian.

Bob continues a talk from last week offering advice based on Scripture for times we are going through personal trials.

Written as an entertaining fantasy-adventure, the story also includes important moral lessons which have encouraged teachers and church youth pastors to include the book in their programs!  Helping out with such objectives, Bob teamed up with talented artist Ray Christiansen to provide a fun, companion coloring book. Each page reflects a key scene from the story, along with a relevant Scripture verse.

Bob discusses two Bible related topics. The Book of Enoch and a recent archaeology find that gives credibility to the story of David and Goliath. ALSO: Bob’s producer Brendan Thomas shares his favorite and least favorite Christmas songs and carols. Needless to say, Bob responds with some opinion of his own.
