Katie Taylor's final fight of her professional boxing career is a moment that will live forever in the hearts of the nation.

Neil Gough, 8 x Irish Elite Boxing Champion and secretary of St. Paul's Boxing Club was in attendance in the 80,000 strong crowd in Croke Park.

He recalls that Katie was a child entering the boxing world when he was boxing at his height in the 1990s in Ireland.

At that time, women's boxing was unheard of and so she famously pretended to be a boy so that she could secure fights in the ring.

Watching her fight amid the spectacle of Croke Park was a proud moment for Irish people across the world and Neil was a guest on The Big Breakfast Blaa to reflect on the role model Katie Taylor has been, and continues to be, to young athletes with big dreams.

St. Paul's boxer Neil Gough pays tribute to the legendary Katie Taylor

Waterford College of Further Education is celebrating 120 years of education within the fabric of the Waterford community on Parnell Street.

Across those years, it has evolved from the Central Technical Institute, to Waterford College of Further Education and the courses and offerings have expanded in line with the demands of learners across the country.

Today, more than 40 courses across a range of disciplines are available with clear and achieveable pathways to higher education.

Michelle Daly is the head of the Music, Art and Media department and she joined Ollie and Dymphna on air to look ahead to a special day happening next Thursday, September 17th.

The public are invited in between 10am and 12noon to view the facilities, the special photographs and exhibitions from 120 years of memories, and to share stories over a cup of tea.

WLR will be broadcasting live from Parnell Street in celebration of such a significant milestone.

Online, photo montages from across the years are available on WLR's Instagram and Facebook pages with many familiar faces, names, and memories being shared.

Waterford's social history is captured and documented in many of the exhibitions within WCFE, highlighting gender distribution across courses, changing demands in upskilling and returning to work, and the changing face of education in the home and in the community.

For many, generations of their families have attended the college, cementing its importance as a cultural, social and education institution in Waterford, responsible for crafting careers, building confidence and a sense of identity, and developing social links.

Congratulations to all at WCFE for 120 incredible years, and to Michelle Daly, who 32 years ago left her band and joined the WCFE family.

Irish first-class cricketer and British army soldier, Thomas Ormsby Jameson, played for both the Hampshire and Marylebone Cricket Clubs.

After his time in the military, Jameson returned to his native-Ireland to run the family farm at Cappoquin.

Cian Manning joined us for his weekly slot to look at the extraordinary life of T.O Jameson and the wealth of sporting endeavours he was involved with across the course of his life.

A major shareholder in Jameson Irish Whiskey, T.O., married painter Joan Musgrave (1892 – 1953), with the couple maintaining a strong connection to Ardmore.

While based in West Waterford, Jameson spearheaded a revival of cricket in the area.

At a time when the 'big houses' of Cappoquin and West Waterford are hitting the headlines, this is particularly interesting to hear the back story of one of Ireland's most influential and illustrious families.

Bringing Cricket to Cappoquin- Jameson Style

Tramore teacher, Blathnaid Britt (Prenter) has issued a heartfelt appeal for people to attend a local Memory Walk in aid of Alzheimers Ireland on Sunday, September 20th.

Two walks are planned, one in Waterford City which walks from Pinegrove Day Care Centre to the People's Park at 11am. For those living further West in Waterford, a walk goes from the Causeway Tennis Club in Abbeyside, also from 11am.

For Blathnaid, whose whole family will be taking part in the walk, reasons are deeply personal as her family collectively cares for their dad, Ray Prenter, a former school principal in Tramore.

Ray attends Pinegrove Day Care Centre and also receives support from Waterford Healing Arts in University Hospital Waterford.

Without the help, support and advice received by the family from Alzheimers Ireland, Blathnaid says they wouldn't have known where to turn or what to do in order to best care for and support Ray.

While her late mum, Bridie was primarily Ray's carer, she became ill three years ago following a shock diagnosis of an aggressive form of cancer.

The family found themselves dividing care between both parents and realising how important charities such as the Solas Cancer Support Centre and Alzheimers Ireland are to those who are caring for loved ones, and indeed to those who are grieving.

It is Blathnaid's hope that people take part in the walk on September 20th so that they realise they aren't alone, that there are shared experiences which can offer strength, and the awareness of the impact of dementia and Alzheimers can be increased.
