6-year-old Wyatt from Buena Park, California called into The Patrick Madrid Show with one of the biggest questions a child can ask: “Why did God sacrifice himself for us?”
Patrick answered by starting from the beginning: Adam and Eve. When they disobeyed God, Patrick explained, they lost the ability to have a perfect relationship with God, and that break carried down to all of us. Like a child separated from the warmth of home, humanity couldn’t simply walk back into the Garden on its own. Their separation from God had done damage that we could not repair on our own.
That’s why God came to us. “We don't have the ability to fix that problem, but God has the ability to fix it,” Patrick said. God “became one of us in Jesus,” and Jesus’ teaching, miracles, and mercy were meant to help people recognize who He is.
Then came the Passion, the Cross, and the Resurrection. When Jesus “died on the cross and then rose again from the dead,” Patrick said, He showed that He “fixed the problem that Adam and Eve created,” opening the way back into friendship with God.
