The Honoré-Mercier Bridge is more than 90 years old, and this week a crack in a steel beam forced the indefinite closure of a Montreal-bound lane, creating major headaches for South Shore commuters. Now, new reporting shows that inspection reports have documented significant corrosion and deterioration on both sections of the bridge, while Quebec says the oldest section is still only in the planning stages for a complete rebuild. The mayor of Châteauguay, Éric Allard, says it may be time to stop repairing the bridge piece by piece and seriously consider rebuilding both sections. He spoke to Andrew Carter.
