For the first time, voter information cards ahead of a Quebec provincial election are being mailed out in French only. Élections Québec had reportedly asked for an exemption under Bill 96 to continue sending the information bilingually, but that request was denied. Premier and CAQ leader Christine Fréchette insists anglophone voters will still have access to information in English online, by phone and at polling stations. But in a new column, Montreal Gazette columnist Allison Hanes argues that putting an extra hurdle in front of some voters, particularly older anglophones who may not be comfortable with French or QR codes, raises a much bigger question about equal access to the ballot box. Allison spoke to Andrew Carter.
