Twenty years ago this Sunday, a gunman opened fire at Montreal’s Dawson College, killing 18-year-old Anastasia De Sousa and injuring 16 others. One of those survivors was Meaghan Hennegan. She was shot twice that day, and in the years since, she has spoken publicly about her experience and become an advocate for stronger gun-control laws. Now, as the 20th anniversary approaches, Meaghan and other survivors and victims’ families have written an open letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney, calling on his government to close what they describe as remaining loopholes in Canada’s firearms laws. Meaghan spoke to Andrew Carter.
