Because RM Williams planned to develop the station into a carbon sink, where carbon dioxide would be sequestered and storedHenbury which had been a thriving cattle station was promptly destocked and Qantas agreed to purchase 1 million tonnes worth of carbon credits from the new carbon-capture-stationBut almost 18 months on there are no carbon credits to purchase and no sign RM Williams has any carbon-capture technology or has even undertaken any sort of trial or experiment on HenburyThe man behind the project, former RM Williams Agricultural Holdings Managing Director David Pearce, was sacked last year and the Board of the company has been reshuffledBut meanwhile, the Department of Climate Change says that once converted into a carbon reserve Henbury can’t ever be returned to a pastoral leaseCan you believe this nonsense? Where is Tony Burke on this?He must demand the return of $9 million of taxpayers’ dollarsAnd Henbury must be returned to what it was – a successful cattle station
