In 2017, Kathleen Wynne's government piloted a three-year basic income project in the Hamilton area, Thunder Bay, and Lindsay. Shortly after Doug Ford's Conservative win in 2018, it was announced that the pilot would be cancelled, after only a year. In early March of this year, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice certified a class- action claim against the provincial government.
