Today I speak with the fabulous Cheryl Leavy. Cheryl is a proud First Nations woman, who generously gave of her time to discuss her culture with me.
She relates how we can approach First Nations people with tenderness in the health care setting and in general life. We discuss the diversity of our indigenous peoples differing countries and how important it is to just ask them about their cultures.
Cheryl is a story teller and will soon be releasing her first book. She is passionate about her culture and indeed, all First Nation people’s differing cultures, and how all Australians should be invested in understanding more about our First Nations peoples.
From the moment I met Cheryl, I was drawn to her. Her vibrancy, wisdom and willingness to share her knowledge (without judging my lack of knowledge) about her people was truly awe inspiring. I came away from this interview replaying the conversations over and over in my head.
It’s a true gift from someone when they can share knowledge about themself and that information makes you stop and reflect. Chatting with Cheryl did just that for me.
I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.
