Youth Day

View descriptionShare
Youth Day is a national Day in South Africa and it is in honour of all young people who lost their lives in the struggle against apartheid and Bantu education. In June 1976, students in Soweto rioted against the introduction of Afrikaans as the language of instruction of half their school curriculum sparking eight months of violent uprisings across the country. Did those events mark the beginning of the end of apartheid? It was a time when activism gained momentum. The world saw the tragic images of school children in Soweto in June 1976. What picture comes to mind today for an eye witness? Tune in to this edition of “Tam Tam Express” as we relive those tragic moments with our guests and ask, “ how have the dreams of the 1976 generation been realized?” Tune in for more.
