The 2014 Stockholm World Water week took place under the theme “Water and Energy”. Water and energy are interdependent in more ways than not. In more than 100 seminars, workshops and events spread throughout the week, delegates discussed ongoing and future work collaboration between the energy and water communities. The Stockholm World Water Week ended with an emphasis on the importance of a water goal, as well as intimate integration of energy and water in the post 2015 development agenda. It also highlighted that water efficiency is one of the main tools in combating poverty and hunger.
During the week, several prizes were awarded for excellence in water-related issues. The bi-annual WASH Media Awards competition is sponsored by the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC)and the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI). Seven journalists won the prestigious WASH Media Awards. Journalists are key partners for sanitation, hygiene and water sector professionals in their awareness raising, advocacy and behavior change work. In this edition of “Tam Tam Express” we talk to David Trouba from the WSSCC about the importance of the “WASH Media Awards”. We also feature two of the winners of the WASH Media Awards. Mbali Chiya (South Africa) won in the “Human Right to Water and Sanitation” category and Marcelo Leite (Brazil) won in the “Water and Energy” category. While one of the winners takes us into the Alexandra Township in South Africa, the other takes us deep into the Amazon, Brazil. Tune in for more!
