Talking of Books 2, 09.09.2017

View descriptionShare

On our new Talking of Books this week, Annabelle Corton (host) and James Mullan (co-host) discuss famous literary moments featuring Leo Tolstoy and Maurice Sendak. Helen Farmer then joins the studio to tell us why her children loved 'Too Many Carrots' by Katy Hudson and 'Triangle' by Jon Klassen. Farmer also tells us why she would want to have 'How to be a Woman' by Caitlin Moran, 'Taking Emily Dickenson's Clothes Off' by Billy Collins and 'Pretty Honest' by Sali Hughes were she to be stranded on an island. In our Arab World segment, teenager Alia Al Mansoori shows us how her love for science fiction lead to her winning the UAE Genes in Space competition. We then ask the big question - Can dogs improve a person's reading ability? To elaborate on the subject, we hear from Karalynn Thomson from The Animal Agency and pet trainer Denise Vertigen via a pre-recorded interview. In our final hour, lead reviewer Yvette Judge tells us what she thought of 'The Mitford Murders' by Jessica Fellowes. We end the show with a little musical interlude - 'Shadows and Tall Trees' by U2.
