Entertainers and writers have assets called intangible personal property. You have heard of tangible personal property like fancy China silver ware, furniture, firearms, and construction tools. Well intangible personal property consists of intellectual property rights, such as trademarks, copyrights, and patents. Intangible personal property requires special planning, especially because of the 1976 copyright act. Attorney, Daniel J. Palmer, J.D., Esq., and I discuss how musicians deal with copyright issues. Mr. Palmer also discusses John Fogerty v. Fantasy, Inc., one of his favorite court cases of all time. After talking about copyright we discussed how Metallica vs. Napster, the most famous lawsuit that helped usher in streaming digital music. Finally, out legacy segment focused on how music in Mr. Palmer’s family and music in my family is a legacy in itself.
