International Fraud Awareness Week serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat individuals and institutions face when it comes to white-collar crime. South Africa is no stranger to witnessing this as whistle-blowers have lost their lives or continue face danger for shedding light on acts of fraud and corruption. Joining us in studio to discuss this is Aslam Mayat - attorney and executive member of the Active Citizens Movement. ACM has made representations to the Zondo Commission and Department of Justice on amendments to the Whistleblower legislation.

The 16th of November 2024 will mark 164 years since the arrival of Indian Indentured labourers on South African soil. About 164 years ago, our ancestors were sailing through the Indian ocean on a heart-breaking and life-changing journey to dock in Durban for the promise of prosperity. That was not the case, but it did not deter our forebears to make a life for themselves and their families with the very little that they had. Today, we ponder the relevance of indenture to the young people of South Africa.

Relevance of 1860 Indentured Labourers to SA Indian youth in 2024

It is unanimous that 16 days of activism should be more than just 16 days. It should be 365 days in which we can have representation throughout the year to highlight the crisis, atrocities and the narrative on the ground. We all deserve to be safe, equal and respected. A new ‘Artivism’ campaign aims to co-create a peaceful world for all. The campaign, which is called - Paint The Silence - is an extraordinary initiative that aims to turn 16 Days of Activism into 365.
