Each year, roughly two thirds of highschoolers are chronically disengaged, a quarter are chronically absent, and 5 percent drop out. Meanwhile, 41% of graduates don’t feel ready for life after school, and 28% of those who go on to college are unprepared for college-level classes. These problems won’t be solved with better resources or interventions. Their causes stem from fundamental design flaws of industrial-style schooling. So why is the industrial model so hard to change? This session will reveal the real barriers to school innovation and point the path to true transformation.
