This session explores heritage language preservation, with a focus on Latinx languages and cultures. We focus on the connection between language, identity, pride and shame as it relates to historical and contemporary politics and linguistic oppression. By centering examples from children with bilingualism in their bones, we emphasize the importance of creating equitable learning spaces that disrupt dominant notions of language separation and foster holistic views of bilingualism.
