AI design is increasingly stripping agency from humans, treating users as mere passive recipients of a tool. How do we instead design a new universe of possible technologies valuing human agency and creativity?  In this fireside chat, we reflect on the long history of user hacks and innovation to learn how user ingenuity has always improved technology from the ground up. We consider truly innovative, humanistic uses of AI that can fulfill the promise of this technology. Participants will leave inspired to consider the ideal design of AI and how we can control our own digital worlds.
