While the 116 California Community Colleges exist in and serve widely diverse communities, there’s a common thread: the presence of LGBTQ+ individuals. The system - the largest in the nation - has taken steps to foster more welcoming and affirming spaces for queer and trans students and staff, actions which are especially crucial in rural areas. Guided by an equity-focused educator specializing in LGBTQ+ inclusion, this conversation will explore effective strategies and action plans to uphold inclusive and equitable learning environments, which address challenges of intersecting identities.
