US submarine sinks Iranian ship off Sri Lanka

View descriptionShare
An American submarine has torpedoed and sunk an Iranian vessel off the coast of Sri Lanka, marking the first time a US submarine has destroyed an enemy ship in 80 years and the first torpedo sinking since World War II. The attack occurred 5,000 kilometres from Australia and 4,000 kilometres from Iran, representing the first time this conflict has extended beyond the Middle East. Israel continues military operations in Lebanon, displacing 70,000 people, while joint US-Israeli strikes have hit 2,000 targets in Iran and depleted 86 percent of Iranian ballistic missile stocks.
