Burnout is a state of mental and physical exhaustion caused by chronic stress that hasn't been successfully managed, with statistics showing one in two people experiencing it. The condition manifests through behavioural symptoms like shutting down and agitation, psychological symptoms including low mood and anxiety, and physical symptoms such as muscle tension and sleep problems. Clinical psychologist Dr Jodie Lowinger identifies three key factors contributing to burnout: mindset (anxiety and the need for certainty leading to perfectionism), context (when expectations exceed capacity and lack of psychological safety), and balance (disconnection from replenishing activities and living out of alignment with personal values).
