The Queensland Government is facing criticism this morning for throwing its weight and taxpayer money behind a renewable energy project that doesn't have the support of locals. Life Georgia Costi in Brisbane on this story. Georgia, it's spent more than one hundred million dollars so far on this.
That's right, Eddie, and that is just the start, because this project could blow out to a whopping eighteen billion dollars. The government is planning to build the world's biggest hydro pump project seventy kilometers west of Mackay, but this has been something strongly opposed by locals who have protested against the project because of its environmental impacts. But also the opposition is against this as well. So far one hundred and eleven million dollars has been spent buying back land and doing ground research, yet we still don't have a business case for this project. The opposition says. People deserve to know where their money is going. But Eddie, the government says, even though costs have gone up, it is still important to invest in renewables.
Thank you, Georgia. M
