King Charles has been forced to spend time in hospital after experiencing side effects during his cancer treatment.
We have got breaking news. King Charles has been forced to spend time in hospital today after experiencing side effects during his treatment for cancer. Yew, this is a big story. Seven News Foreign editor Hugh Whitfeld joins us now in the studio.
Hugh, how serious shrevernat. It's been described as a bump in the road, certainly unexpected and gives us an indication that the King is still undergoing treatment for cancer, more than a year after he was diagnosed in January last year. The statement from Buckingham Palace says that following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning in London, the King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital. His Majesty's afternoon engagements were therefore postponed. His Majesty has now returned to Clarence House, They say as a precautionary measure, acting on medical advice. Tomorrow's diary program will also be rescheduled. His Majesty would like to send his apologies to all those who may be inconvenience or disappoint as a result. And the King was due to see or receive three new ambassadors at Buckingham Palace in the afternoon in London. That was canceled. He was due to go to Birmingham tomorrow local time in the UK. That has been canceled as well. The Palace says that the King is in good form and he's continuing to work on state papers, make calls from his study and things like that, but it is it is probably a pretty big concern. He's seventy six years old. We now know that he is still undergoing cancer treatment and this has necessitated a change to his schedule.
And we know Camilla complains about how much he is working, don't we It's hard. We sometimes forget, don't we, that he's undergoing chemo all through this and he's somehow fitting that in and going to work and traveling and he's this old. Yeah.
I think it will open a whole new line of questions about just how hard the King is working, whether it's appropriate for him to be carrying out these engagements. A trip to Italy coming up in the next couple of weeks. He was going to see the Pope. Now the Pope is pulled out of that on doctors' advice. He's listening to the doctors Let's hope the King is as well. Because he is seventy six years old, he's undertaking a workload that is not in keeping necessarily with his age. He's begun a new job in the last couple of years that he's been waiting decades to begin. But this will be a concern for the palace.
Okay, that's big news.
