A major helicopter operation is underway at Cumberland River along the Great Ocean Road to recover dozens of flood-ravaged cars washed into the ocean six days ago. The vehicles from Cumberland River Caravan Park have been smashing against rocks through tidal cycles, with some now almost submerged past the rocks. The Great Ocean Road between Lorne and Skeens Creek is closed for approximately four hours during low tide to allow the delicate winching operation to proceed despite strong wind warnings.
