Giant tortoises return to Galapagos after 175 years

Giant tortoises have returned to the Galapagos island of Floriana after 175 years of extinction in the region. Scientists bred 158 juvenile hybrid tortoises aged 8 to 13 using genetics from the original Galapagos tortoises that were wiped out in the 19th century. The young tortoises have now been released into the wild to reclaim their ancient ecological role.
