Blogger Jessa O'Brien on why Tyagarah Beach should stay a nude beach.
More than one hundred and fifty naturists have rallied near Byron Bay to fight the closure of their beloved nude beach.
Yeah, many locals have called Tiagara Beach their happy place for decades, with it being one of the few remaining skinny dipping spots in New South Wales, but now the state's Parks and Wildlife Service wants to revoke its clothing optional status. Nude blogger Jess O'Brien is one of those fighting the change.
Morning to you, So, the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
Says keeping this as a nude beach is not consistent with the values the reserve is managed under. They want you clothed. Why do you want to be nude?
Hi, Matt, Matt and Shovo. Nice to meet you.
First and foremost, the decision that's been made has been a complete blind side for the community and we have no idea what they're at, what the basis for this decision has actually been. So that's the biggest thing is we just want in on the conversation.
What's the appeal? Why do people want to go nude in public? What's it all about?
So I don't think it's necessarily about going nude in public. It's a small, little eight hundred meter stretch of beach and for a lot of people it's yeah, it's a lifestyle choice that feels empowering. A lot of people get to meet like minded people, and at these clothing optional beaches, there's a real sense of community that you don't really get on your regular beach. So, you know, I go there often as a solo female, and I've been frequenting Tiger since twenty seventeen and I have become I've had the privilege of becoming a part of a really amazing community.
So when they say it's sort of basically they're saying it hasn't it's not consistent with family values. What's your response to that?
So they didn't say family values.
They just said it's not consistent with the values which the reserve is managed under. So if this is about, yeah, whether that's the thing, it's very vague, so we don't actually really know what they're specifying. In that you know what they're actually specifying. So that's what we want to know. We want we want for an open dialogue so that we can manage their expectations, because if anyone is motivated to keep this speech safe, to keep to like conserve the environment of the land. It's us.
We have something to lose here, and so we want to work with.
National Parks to manage expectations, to move forward cohesively and make sure and ensure that it's a safe beach and that we're looking after the environment.
Yeah.
Interesting discussion, Jess. So thanks for your time, really appreciate it. Hopefully you can find some sort of compromise and allow it all to hang out as you do.
Yeah, I mean, I hope so exactly. You're in favor of that, aren't you. Sure?
Well, I haven't done it myself, but each to their own, you know, sun kiss buns or something.
Like that, not even in Europe or anything.
No, I telling me that.
I just I don't know. I feel it. I feel like I've got other information.
More of a full length steamer wetsuit kind of guy.
Oh god,
