Forget Contiki, hundreds of school leavers are now turning to the military for their Gap Year with the Australian Defence Force recruiting people over 17 for several roles with no experience needed.
For more, ADF's Careers Specialist Sergeant, Jared Lourey, joins.
Forget Kentique. Hundreds of school leavers are now turning to the military for their gap year. The Australian Defense Force is recruiting young people over the age of seventeen for a number of roles with no experience needed that receive full military training, subsidized accommodation, meals medical coverage for a year plus. The position may even lead to a six figure salary. The ADF's career Specialist, Sergeant Jarrett Larry, joins us now, morning to you, thanks so much for being with us. Okay, tell us a bit more about the type of roles are on offer and how much of these gapees paid.
Yeah, great question. So there's over twenty five different gap year pathways available through the ADO across the three services, anything from chef to security to even helicopter mission commander. So that the entry I guess pay grade that you'll open in at is about fifty four thousand, and then as you as you work your way up through and if you decide to say on past that twelve months, then your salary will obviously increase from there.
Okay, just what we're still on salaries. Some of the six figure salaries that can be earned at the ADF were recently revealed, including two hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year for an engineering manager. How many years down the track would that be for somebody who might stay beyond a gap year.
Oh, great question, And it really comes down to the individual and their training and how much that they I guess it would like to work towards that. Ultimately, we want people to be enjoying the job role that they're doing, and then the pay and the benefits such as you spoke about earlier, come along the way as a byproduct.
Okay, So if somebody goes in as a gap ye for a year and they are required to go into a conflict zone, could that happen in that first year?
No, not within the first twelve months. So we will say domestically for our gap year pathways, we really want them to enjoy travel and explore and build that and mate shit and some of that experience. If they decide to stay in defense further past that twelve month period, potentially it's something that obviously ultimately that we could all end up in that situation if unfortunately, if the time comes.
Yeah, okay, well an interesting idea, Thank you very much Sergeant for telling us about it.
Thank you
