Hi there and welcome to another episode of "Have A Little Faith With Delilah". If you know me, if you have followed me on the air, or on social media for any length of time, you know that my faith is like the air that I breathe. I honor it so much. I would not be here if I didn't. I wouldn't have made it through the trials and tribulations of life had I not had a solid foundation, a rock of faith. I have recently been on a health journey and that includes working on my spiritual health as much as I work on physical health. It is all connected. I am discovering a lot about myself. My Valentine to you is simply my faith. I started this podcast last year so I could share my heart. I don’t save that for holidays. I share it every night.  Special days  can often get taken over by images and expectations. In particular, Valentine’s Day can be difficult for many because they have been programmed to think it is all about romance. For me it is not… Each and every night I share conversations that celebrate all the different aspects of love.  The kind of love you share between family and friends, and anyone you might come across. The kind of love that grows over days and months and years. I spent the entire holiday season talking about the importance of seeing the future in faith and hope and love. I meant that with my entire heart. The key for me is prayer. Instead of setting resolutions, and trying to envision things, try praying. We always look for big miracles for a burning bush, a parting of the sea, for a  life saved, for sight restored, for bones knit back together... Today’s podcast is about the subject of grief. We need to talk about grief more. We really do. It is a subject that affects all of us. We need to acknowledge the sadness that grief can bring to us and also the people in our lives. Our society does not hold space for grief. We need to change that. In other countries when women give birth, they're given time off to bond with their baby and care for the baby. Here it's like chop-chop... Get back to work! The same is true with grief.  In other cultures and other parts of the world when somebody that is close to you passes, you are honored and given ways to grieve. In our society, you are given a message that goes something like this: You should be over this by now... it’s been a few weeks. My answer to that is a hard no. If you are someone who has experienced deep grief, this episode is for you and if you’re someone who has never experienced grief, you will experience deep grief in your lifetime, so this episode is for you too. This episode of “Have A Little Faith” is about taking chances. Taking chances is where growth begins. Have you ever heard that saying that boats are only safe when they’re in the harbor? Boats weren’t built to stay in the harbor, it’s a safe place to rest, but it’s not where a boat belongs. A boat belongs out at sea, it belongs in the water. Its purpose is to sail, is to go out into the unknown and the same is true for you and I. Taking chances is where growth begins. It’s where our faith grows. Anxiety is a normal human emotion that involves feelings of worry, fear or unease. It is often triggered by things that we can’t control, things that have not happened yet. The fight or flight response is a God given response that kicks in to your mind and body for survival. However, if you get stuck in that mode it can be a a trap and it can make situations much worse. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy. It does not boast. It is not proud. It does not dishonor others. Love is never self seeking. It is not easily angered. It keeps no record of wrongdoing. It doesn’t delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, and always hopes. It always perseveres. I know the way we meet people has evolved through modern technology, dating apps, Facebook, etc… But never underestimate God as a match maker.  He might put the love of your life right in front of you at the supermarket or maybe in a Bible study, maybe an art class or maybe he just sends them right to your front door. A mom raising kids is the closest thing to doing God‘s job. Unconditional love, showing up through any storm, forgiving anything and everything…but mostly being there. God loves mama’s. In relationship God tells us how we are to treat one another. He gives us so many words and so many directives on how to love one another…. In relationship, especially in marriage, God tells us to be honest, to be faithful, to be kind and to be present. He asks us to put our partners needs above our own. In this episode we are going to talk to some folks who embraced that wisdom. They are people who let God take the wheel so to speak. They let God orchestrate the situation. Have you ever said or done something you wish that you didn’t? Do you stay awake at night trying to figure out how to fix it? I don't think there is a single  person among us who doesn't wish they could take back something that they did, or something they said… There's an expression in recovery we use and it is simply HALT. That stands for hungry, angry, lonely or tired. When you're emotionally exhausted, or frustrated it is easy to say things that you can't take back. There is a way to get through anything when you have God by your side, not as a crutch, not as a Band-Aid, but as the king of kings. He will lift you up and carry you through the floodwaters, he will hold onto you when you feel like you’re drowning under your tears, he will reach down from on high and grab you and pull you out of the flames of addiction, the flames of betrayal, he will set your feet on solid ground. There are many ways that we end up staying stuck, mostly trying to re-create what will never be again. The inability to get back to a time or a place when things felt comfortable is a fool’s errand and it never ends well.  Being stuck in the past is heartbreaking. Instead we can try to accept what is and move forward with God. It is never too late to look inside and try to move forward. Welcome to the season of gratitude, the season of Thanksgiving, the season where we celebrate food, sharing, family and faith. We really should be celebrating Thanksgiving and gratitude all year round. However, to everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven.  Everything has it's appointed time, a time to be born, a time to die, a time to plant, a time to harvest. There's a time for sorrow, there's a time for joy. Our problem is we like to think we're in control of those seasons. Here's the thing we don't get to control or redirect or decide when these seasons are gonna happen in our lives. My faith teaches me that is up to God. When we trust in God's timing...He will get us through anything. When we can rest in knowing that his plan is probably better than our plan miracles can happen. I hope you enjoy this episode. In these crazy times we are all living in it can be very easy to question your faith. We all at one time or another thought where is God in all this? Sometimes we even blame God for these horrific tragedies that we see everyday. God is not causing those things, people are.  There’s a wonderful verse in the Bible that says “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, but in all ways acknowledge God and he will make your path straight”. God doesn’t cause harm. He loves us. He never walks away from us, but we do walk away from him. This is a time to cling to God.
