She just waved to you guys.
So Jade is here to help us kind of run down, run through these stories, and we're gonna let her lead this one off and kind of take it from here.
So Jay tell us what's happening. So a lot going on.
So a couple of weeks ago, we know that Mayor Eric Adams threatened to revoke the Key to the city, the key to New York City that he gave Diddy back in two thousand and three. And according to TMZ and news outlets, the key to the city has been returned. So this was an honor that did he got and Mark Eric Adams did not waste any time.
He was very very clear that he was highly.
Disturbed by the video that we all saw and we've talked about at length about Cassie Cassie bent Tour being assaulted by Diddy. That footage came out and as soon as the mayor saw it, he and the board that actually talks about giving the key to the city to people who have made extraordinary accomplishments, they decided to revoke it. So we do know that Diddy actually got the key to the city on September twenty seventh, back in two thousand and three, and here we are less than a year later it has been returned. Taz, I know, I know, I know that. You know, you have a show on Revolts do a lot of the work. You work with, council consult for a lot of celebrities and a lot of folks. Have you ever seen someone given honor or distinction to a person and then right working in the world of crisis communication, they start to get the rewards and accolades revokes And I just kind of wanted to get your thoughts and your experience.
To learn that.
M M.
Yeah, for sure, and we've saw it happen, and just for a punt of clarity, you know, Didd he was one of those individuals you know that I worked with. I guess it was a twenty twenty two maybe no, maybe around maybe twenty twenty one when he was wanting to get more politically involved. But yeah, I mean we saw a lot of that with Kanye. Typically we'll see contracts, you know, giving back if we've seen people saying they don't want to be a part of associate with the brand anymore.
We saw a lot of that happen with Jonathan Major's member.
Everybody just instantly, overnight, you know, started yanking stuff back, yanking affiliations back. I don't recall a key giving back, but it's not to say that that has not happened. But a key is a symbol. Obviously it's not a real key, but it is a symbol of what you have accomplished in New York. My personal opinion that though it doesn't like everything that did he's done, as disgusting as it is, it doesn't take away, you know, what he has accomplished or what he's accomplished in New York. But the key does symbolize that they basically have access that they basically, you know, are an important you know, an important person you know in that city. And I just want to read the exact definition of it. It says that the key it actually started in eighteen hundreds and it is a direct symbol of the city's wish that the guests feel free to come and go at will. Now that was in the eighteen hundreds, obviously, there's no literally no literary key, but it says that it is a beloved symbol of civil recognition and gratitude reserve for individuals whose service to the public and the common good rises to a high level of achievement. So obviously, by watching that video, that obviously, you know, cancels out the common good that rises to a high level. It doesn't take away his civil recognition, you know, and what he's done in that city and things that he's done, but it's just not a good look, you know that. That's just the bottom line.
And talk about dude.
He had his honorary degree from Howard University revoked as well, and so this revoking of the key of the City of New York comes right after how Howard University not only revoked his honorary degree, but they also like gave back the money or they said that they're giving back the money to the scholarship fund.
M hm.
Yeah, we talked about that too on Straight Shot and Chase So Gold.
Guys, go back and listen to the episode if you want to get dig into that a little bit more. But yeah, it's definitely, uh, you know, just an unfortunate thing for everybody involved. But Mayor Adams might have to be given more back, not just the key, but the literal key to his office.
Remember, he got some that are coming up as well. So I understand the move. I understand the pr move. I get it.
I guess he quietly is literally not a key, you know, but you know they had they had to do that.
He needed to be honest with you.
I think he just needed to do something that kind of shows him taking some high road on something because again, he is under investigation as well. So a lot of times, unfortunately guys, people will use your downfalls an opportunity to uplift them.
You know.
I don't know. I believe that he's.
Disgusted by what he saw, for sure, but I also just from a crisis calm standpoint, anytime I can grab earned media and take something that makes my client look better, even if it's at your demise, I can certainly see you know how that move was made. I don't think if people would have never took the key back, nobody would have been saying you need to take the keyback, because again it's no key. The same thing with Howard University, nobody be saying you need to take back that honorary degree because nobody, I mean no disrespect, but those of us that got to go and earn our master's and PhDs and juris doctrine, we just don't look at honorary degrees as because they're not real degrees. It's just a recognition that basically you wrote a check to the school basically, right, or they think you are a high profile enough that by associating with you would in turn maybe increase uh, you know, funds or you know, people going to the school. So I don't think nobody even would have said on Howard, hey, you better get it, you know, get a honoraly degree back. So I think it was just again another opportunity, you know, to show doing good, especially because again Howard University the last couple of years, it's not like they've just been shining in the news as well. He was gonna say, right, oh.
Yeah, I was gonna say, I think I think Mayor Eric Adams would disagree with you. He he's saying that people are hating on him because all the chocolate that he got running the city. He literally said that in this audio clip right here, where Eric Adams says, quote, we got all this chocolate running the city and you're trying to figure out why they're hating on me.
End quote. So take a listen.
First Trendandaddy and to be a deputy mayor, first Dominican to be a deputy mayor, first African American to be the first deputy mayor per second Afritican American to be the chief of staff. Why the first one was by David Dinkins. When you look at our administration, first Indian American to be a deputy mayor, first Philippino American to be a deputy mayor, first Korean American that had small business services. You look at our administration and you would see for yourself. We got all of this chocolate running the city and you're trying to figure out why.
They hating on me.
Yeah.
Mayor Adams is saying that people are literally hating on him because he has elected many black officials in the City of New York, and he was making subliminals.
In that clip.
We just heard about why people are hating on him, you know, just mentioned that the allegations swimming against him. And interestingly enough, in this clip, at this press conference, there is state New York State Senator Parker standing behind him and his name was also circulating in the news, but the neither one of them have been convicted of anything. But it definitely goes to show, you know that there's there's a lot of stuff with our brothers happening. And while Mayor Eric Adams did say that he was disgusted by the clip of Casside and Diddy to your points, as I think he probably should be worrying about the investigations that he has to deal with.
He said our brothers, Well, some people will say that he not one of our twitter ve brother like brothers just don't mean black some solidarity.
But you know, again that's for people to argue.
But remember he's been going on this, uh, this this campaign tour of how they're coming after all the black mayors, uh in regards to immigration, which is true. I mean it is all black mayors if they've targeted to drop these migrants in. But I think they would have done that whether they again, nonetheless speak two things to be true at the same time, they can certainly be I'm definitely off it's a cap for them and say that they're not. But I do know that Republicans willing to do anything to prove a point about migrants. So if it was, I think they were going to drop drop them off regardless, you know. But I do agree that it's sure is a coincidence that they all happen to be black mayors. But I think Republicans really just wanted to get on the books, that Republicans that Democrats have to admit that there is a problem with immigration, which they've been successful because Joe Biden once again signed executive orders this week for the second time on immigration. He's not waiting on Congress, he's not waiting on bi parties. He waiting on everybody to get it together. He's not doing all the things that people tell me I need to wait on him to do. For the George Floyd. He's moving forward. And a lot of it had to do with them Republicans dropping off their migrants in those major cities, New York being won. So we remember he's been on this campaign tour. I'm a brother and they coming after me, And I can understand some of that frustration, not even with the migrant part, but just being Devil's advocate. When he said, you know, I've only had the office for two years. You guys want me to turn around everything overnight, you know, and when he laid down a lot of facts on what he's done. Now there's a big disagreement with that. I can see some of his frustration, you know, can lie based upon what he said. But I also know those two sides of every story, and I know there's some criticism with that. The only thing that I've heard him say on record, when I'm gonna say only thing, One of the things that I was concerned with was him talking about, you know, people want needing to be able to want to do that non.
Profit work for free. You know that's crazy as hell. You know, Mayor Adams, Your Yeah, your consultants ain't working for free. So you're saying that people just need to do it because it's the right thing. Are you crazy going to the prisons because the right thing? People still have to work and earn money.
So I didn't like that, and people want to hear what he said about that on Definitely go watch Drink Champs, the episode with him and my son, because my sign the general went until Freedom definitely challenged him on that, and I thought that was a really good episode. So go check that out if you're interested in hearing more about Mayor Adams in that comment.
Thank you.
So that's all I have on the Diddy situation. Now, next up, we know that Swiss Beats, Swiss Beats and Timberland they inc a versus deal. They made a versus deal with Elon Musk and the ex platform. The platform is formerly known as Twitter. Now let me just get into what happened here. Now we know that Versus is coming to asking if you are. I'm sure some people may not know what versus is. During the pandemic, we had these virtuals.
Hold all this pause for the calls right there. I won't hope anybody.
If anybody listen a straight shot no chase and you do not know what versus is, I'm totally I'm gonna.
Let Jay to explain it.
But if you don't know what versus and you listen to this show and know my connection to hip hop and all that, I'm deeply concerned.
But go ahead, Jay and explain it to them my guests.
But either way, you know, we're educateds here and we'll school you. But hopefully we know that new people are subscribing. When new people are subscribing to the platform, and so hey, don't want to take anything for granted. That's when things always teach me test and to take nothing for granted and to say it, oh no.
So Versus really really.
Popular during the pandemic, and they were these virtual these virtual concerts Instagram, and I will tell you millions of people tuned in. And I think my favorite one with the petty drama is because of the petty drama. Was Monica Versus Brandy. That one had me rolling with all the poems.
But either way, wait a minute, hold on, Pauls, because let's go back. I'm trying to why was that the best one? Pity No Mona.
It's funny to me because it was just like Monica's singing ding her thing and Brandy's like, yeah, but.
I have a poem. It was just just.
Yeah, means behind that Brandy versus Monica's hilarious.
People like what does Brandy have one?
Like why did she keep talking but she's talking about they supposed to be singing. It was, it was, It was kind of interesting, but that was my favorite one because I also.
Had the poem.
Y'all didn't see that, and I guess because I wasn't interested in watching Monica and Brandy. Uh, So I didn't see that, and I don't remember seeing no memes about her doing no poem. Why Brandy is a beautiful Some would even say, right, stay better than Monica?
So did she not sing a lot at all? Or what he's saying? But she had some poems and it was a lot of talking.
It was a lot of talking.
Listen, we are going to start seeing new Versus episodes on X on Twitter. So, according to Hotnew hip Hop dot Com, Swiss Beats and Timberland have agreed on a deal to distribute Versus through Elon Musk's platform X formerly known as Twitter. The two announced the move during an activation in Knes, France on Wednesday.
So they are coming. They got this deal.
And what I saw when I learned about I saw the headline. But when I saw Swiss Beach's Instagram of like Elon Musk standing in the middle and there's Timberlane, like the optics of that was kind.
Of read the caption.
Let's let's actually because I know he said somebody being black owned once again, which is kind of confusing. So let me read the caption. It says life begins at the end of your comfort zone. It's a visual Versus's back and one hundred percent black owned again, So I guess I remember slightly, but I don't want to stole misinformation out there, but I remember did they sell it that they who won't?
I guess yes, who would else?
So I know that they cut a deal.
They could have deal with someone a different company, because I know someone who actually worked on some of the promos for Versus during the pandemic and after, like toward the end of the pandemic or whatever, they sold some parts of the company to a different company. So I didn't I was not under the impression that it was that it was fully black owned, but I would have to do more research than that. I don't want to misspeak, but I definitely know that they did cut another company or entity into Versus at some point.
And that deal didn't work or something it fell through.
I'm not sure, but and I guess like the deal that they have with Elon Musk is just it's just like a distributor of it, but it's going to be on his platform, So I'm not even sure what that even it's going to look like.
Because I know that.
X has started to transition into having more video, So you can stream in a Twitter space and it can just be audio, but now you can actually see people broadcasting on YouTube and on to tell M, they just started doing that recently, so.
I guess that's what the verses will look like. So I'm not.
Sure specific pause right there, we're talking really fast. Hold on, pause right there. Backup, they're doing it actually on the platform, or are you talking about like when I just when I use restream because like I can stream now, I can stream now on YouTube and Twitter and all that.
So what do you mean by video?
Yeah, so you can create a Twitter space now and you can have the option to turn your camera on while you're broadcasting on X. I keep saying Twitter, while you're broadcasting on X. You set up your space, your X space, and then you hit the camera button and you can turn your camera.
How's they gonna work? For all the people that like to hide behind their.
Names, they're still hiding behind their names, but they can see you speaking.
That's it.
But I'm saying when they start these spaces, a lot of people start hide behind they act. So when he's eighty five ninety two, how they because you know one reason why they love the audio space is because they don't like the camera. Now let me ask you this can the other if I pull people up to speak and they turn on their camera too, No, I haven't seen that function, but they need to do.
Yeah, I want to yell, yeah, let's start seeing.
I know y'all say they docsing, they docsing, they shown y I like docs on docs crime.
If I'm docs, you need to be docs. If I'm willing to put my name on the line and risk it all, why do you get to hide behind you know, you ordinate get to keep your job, keep your contract, and I gotta put it on the line. So hey, elin, if you listening, add their camera to these avatars because I want to see what they looking like, because that just makes the big difference in the world. But pretty cool.
Then that's pretty good feature, you know what. I'm we're gonna get to let me finish reading what he said.
I am though just a technical standpoint, I don't.
I'm it's gonna be interesting to see if if Twitter and X can handle the type of strength you know, handle it, because remember when they did the town hall? Was it for Ron DeSantis? And it kept crashing yep, So I'm wondering if it's gonna be able to handle it, because they x ELI must have been known to put this stuff out here and not be and not build handled. So we're gonna see. So it's gonna be interesting to see if if Twitter is gonna be just one of their many ways, you know how they normally do. They got it on versus? Are they gonna still do Instagram? Will it just be on Twitter which is X Are they still gonna show on all their and platforms? Look through that article in real time and just see if it says that, because when I looked out one double check, I don't think it does say that.
They do have that.
Swiss Beasts and Timilar will with this deal, they will maintain one hundred percent ownership and creative control of their platform versus.
So just just to clear that up, Now, what do we looking for?
Like, so I want you to be I'm going to read the rest of what's on the Instagram post. Just look through and see if they're saying they're going to put it on x in addition to steal Instagram still because remember they just didn't stream on Instagram. They would have it on versus. They had it in different places. So when they would say we got ten eight million streams. That wasn't just from people watching on Instagram. So I'm just wondering, is this exclusive with Twitter or not? So while you're so why, sorry, it is exclusive. I'm seeing it right here. It is exclusively going to be streamed on as nowhere else. Oh wow, they just really gave him. He just they just really gave Twitter a big So this is why people are pissed off in the comments, so many reasons.
Why let me continue what it says on here. It says it's official.
I just said that Versus back on hundredsent Black owned again, which is I guess what the big It's probably been a couple of years since we haven't had a versus. It said, let's give the people what they've been missing. We were also be building new entertainment businesses on the X platform, so I guess they're gonna be doing some other stuff. And then they go into who should the first kickoff be? Let's go and but whe nobody talking about no kickoff in the comments. People kicked off dead and they asked about why they are partnering with Elon Musk. They said, oh, they kicked off, but not what they was looking for a few of the celebrity celebrity friends are doing emojis and high fire and all that. But people ain't with this. They're not fans of Elon Musk. They're not fans of comments he have made. They you know, the straight up calling him a flat out racist. And so this is just very very interesting. Let's look at some of those comments. Pulls that up, Jay, just to kind of let people know just a few comments of what people are saying. And while you're looking that up, I guess that just cancels me asking for the political verses. You know, I've been asking for it forever. I've been saying, let's do a political versus, let's have teams go against each other, let's debate. But Elon Musk is known for not liking a different opinion. Remember with Don Lemon maybe a few months ago, Don Lemon was gonna do his show on Twitter and it was gonna be exclusive with Twitter. But when Don Lemmon interviewed Elon Musk and challenged him on his opinions, that whole deal stopped. So I am with the assumption that maybe Elon Musk don't like a bunch of different political opinions. He said he did because that was his reason for bringing Tucker Carlson and all these others he was supposed to. And I don't know if Tucker still has this show on Versus on Twitter or ex but allegedly he was supposed to be all about these different voices and politics.
But how it's been looking, he hain't really been with this.
So I guess that cancels me asking asking to do it for the culture, and I don't know if that's a platform that would be.
Best aligned with my brand.
So I really do want the Versus, and I wanted a platform that could handle it and bring in the type people that we need.
So I guess we'll see.
I want to throw it all the way after the dream came out the window, but I think it'd be really good. So read a couple of those comments Jade on what people are saying in the comments.
Yep.
One person said, the moment, I really understand that our quote unquote faves are nothing more than tools of capitalism, chosen to.
Sell us shit.
Their wealth is theirs. They are in that class. Now with those people, they are not like us guys. Seriously happy Juneteenth the.
Way he posted this on June teen, and.
He posted on Juneteenth. Another person says unbelievably embarrassing. Another one says, not you posting Elon on Juneteenth? When I said, somebody else said posting with Elon Musk on Juneteenth is wild. Another one said this is not it. Elon will never be a good destination for us. And another person said, with mister apartheid white supremacist Niga, please.
And yeah, they weren't.
Feeling it to your point. They were lightening him. They were lighting up a smith's best and Timbland. I don't think black folks really took kindly to this.
But guess what, they still gonna watch it.
If the verses is tight enough, can we be honest about it, they still gonna watch it. See, at some point we gotta be willing to like, if we're gonna stand, we gotta be willing to stand. And I just think people still gonna watch it, to be honest with you, if the verse, if the paris tight enough.
We ain't gotta worry about it being Diddy.
And remember it was supposed to be Diddy and JD for a long time, so I guess that won't be happening we can assume that that won't be happening.
Yeah, it was gonna be.
That was supposed to be one of their biggest ones. They went back and forth. One time, Diddy got on Live with JD and they did like a little sample on what it would look like, and it was gonna be. Diddy was talking shit and it was really funny, like it was gonna be really good. But I guess, you know, we certainly that's certainly gonna be happening. So I don't know, I think people gonna tune in. We love entertainment and we love our artists, and it is what it is.
So I think it's really risky that they gave versus if they're putting it exclusively on X listen. X has lost so much money since Elon took over, and plus he fired a whole bunch of people. I'm not sure they've rolled out different tools in different features over the past year that I've experienced that like really weren't working well, and you know, it took a lot of different updates, and so I'm just wondering if if X and Elon have the capacity to facilitate a whole bunch of people coming onto the platform, given that they've downsized in numbers and the platform I think has lost some value.
Over the year. So yeah, that's what's happening there with that.
What else, Oh, we'll just see how it all goes down. We'll see if we'll see if versus can save Twitter or x. I'm still called on Twitter. I just all these different names, you know, but go ahead.
It's Twitter. Yeah. So some good news, some good news for once. I really love this story.
Speaking of Juneteenth, Miss ople Lee was the grandmother of June teen. She's a fierce advocate. She advocated for Juneteenth to become a federal holiday. She's a Texas native and she got the keys to her childhood homeback after eighty five years when a racist mob drove her family off that family lot when she was twelve years old. So this happened. This happened on a family home that was built in Fort Worth, Texas. It was on a lot there where her family was forced by a racist mob. It was like almost they described it as like the whole town came to evictim off the property. So this was a symbolic gesture that happened a few days before Juneteenth, and it marked a significant moment in her lifelong efforts for recognition of Juneteenth. She's ninety seven years old, and this is really such a blessing test. And she received the keys to her new home and she planned to have like a huge I guess you could say Juneteenth do you believe there, which was really exciting. There were local organizations that collaborated to quickly build the house and furnish it for her, and they did all of that construction within three months. And she said she just con intends to host as many open houses as possible to connect with her new community neighbors. And this Juneteenth marks the eighty fifth anniversary of that traumatic event in her life. And yeah, imagine a mob of five hundred folks, five hundred white people, racists, white supremacists come in and just evicting your family off the land.
So that was a good story that I saw.
Mm hmm, a good thing we can post on that we can have some nice to everything and always doomsday.
Thank you, right exactly? That was like, that was good all right?
Another story the abortion pill. So you know, Tess laughs at me a lot because I love to follow the stories coming out of the Supreme Court a lot.
Of folks may think some of the stories are born.
You love Supreme Jade. Pause for the calls, y'all.
Jade is your resident Supreme Court correspondent. As you know, Jade helped to me with from Age news on the Breatherst Club and I would have tell us several times, Jay, we only got two minutes, so I really can't go through, you know, k tall all eight five six nine motion five eight nine two five and three. Jay, won't y'all know about the Supreme Court, but which we appreciate it. Sometime we're able to get the stories in.
She Uh.
When I brought over a straight shout out, I was like, Jay, first time I said, is this is your opportunity to talk about these Supreme Court access Yeah, we're.
Going to do it today because recently the abortion pill came up in the Supreme Court, and you all know that abortion is a highly, highly, highly polarizing topic, you know this election season in general, and women's maternal health reproductive health has always been a hot button topic. So just to bring you all up to speed in case you missed it, the Supreme Court unanimous ruling acknowledging that anti abortioning doctors lacked legal standing to sue the FDA over recent actions easing access for the pill, the abortion pill call life, which, how do you pronounce the test? My protozoan might yet my protozone Uh huh, my christal zone is a key pill in the medication for abortion. So despite this decision, the broader movement to restrict abortion access STEFF still continues. There are three states that intend to challenge the Supreme Court ruling that makes the abortion pill available. So we know that reproductive rights lawyers anticipate efforts by abortion anti abortion activists or legislators to revive a one hundred and fifty one year old federal law that could be sending abortion pills through the mail. So that's really interesting, right, They're going to try to make sure that you are not able to order the pill from Amazon or order it from you some company or place out of state if that state itself says no to this. Also, abortion access advocates fear that the potential second Trump administration would reintroduce similar restricts the abortion measures.
So we'll see.
The Supreme Court ruling definitely addressed that specific the specific legal standing. It does not impede ongoing efforts to limit access to abortion services across various fronts. Idaho, Kansas, and Missouris are the three states that have intervened in a federal court case in Amarillo, Texas regarding abortion, and they joined after the Supreme Court agreed to review the FDA's appeal of the abortion pill access. So we guess that we have to see if those three states are going to be successful in challenging the Supreme Court's ruling. The abortion, maternal health, reproductive rights conversation will continue. And again I know tas you know you can weigh in on this. This is a highly, highly, highly polarizing topic this election cycle.
Mm hm you know no that, I mean, you hit it right on the nail again, a highly It's a big topic and I want people again, let's let's be clear about who's voting what and who if they lose and why they lose. And I'll talked about it on the last episode. You guys, make sure you go listen. But abortion, contrary to the internet's poper belief, this issue is an issue that white women are very concerned about and have went on the record. So when I know there's this negative stereotype that black women are on the one is concerned about having abortion. That's the damn lie. According to the numbers and the stats. Let's just go by the numbers and the SATs. The reason why the mid terms last year did not happen the way they thought it would is because white women went to the polls and said, hey, including Republicans, not conservatives, won't y'all know difference? Conservatives of pro life. Republicans are people that you know, they like Republican business plans, but not necessarily are not far right when it comes to ideology and pro life being one. And those white women went and snuck behind they white men's back and absolutely voted differently. And again, if you look at any of the movements, any of the marches, any of the pussycat had movements that they did about it was a sea of white women doing this. So again, when somebody asked me when I was up, I did a local local hit hit me as a segment television appearance a couple weeks ago, and white guy, white judge on the way, I.
Said, you know, why why do black people like Trump?
You know, and we ain't done enough of black people and we went through this, you know, he got a good air for with that one. But then also say you need to be talking to your white daughter. You know, they're the ones that voted for Trump when they after they voted for Obama. So she was standing, I said, talk to her. Don't talk to black people because we've carried this country in our back four years.
So whether they win or lose, it ain't up to us. This is about what white women are gonna do as far as abortion is concerned. And so that's why they have a problem. That's what what's gonna be who's gonna make the difference in that swing voter. Swing voter again, somebody had no problem voting for Trump, but this time they say, you know what I ain't with that abortion. Y'all went to them and fire on their row versus way.
Democrat voters typically are going to vote pro choice every time, and that includes black voters, who are ninety percent said the actually people that actually vote doesn't mean that black people are ninety percent liberal, because actually black people are very much so majority moderate and even conservative in values.
But the people that actually go to the.
Polls, not the ones that say they sitting home. The ones that actually go to the polls those are the ones that are counted. Those are the ones that get the money. Those are the ones that they're always trying to convince the people at home they're happy, please sit at home, get out the way. That's how they think. So the ones that actually go to the polls vote ninety percent back. Now, if black people want to start making some noise and they start doing like this Hispanic community and actually go to the polls and vote for a Republican not Trump, I'm just saying on the state, the local level, and actually go vote Republican and show where our numbers are fifty to fifty that we can go either or then we become a swing demographic.
Now they start spending money to get us.
Now they start telling us lies, a little bit more lies, but actually having to deliver on them like they do for this Spanic community. So until we get more strtig like that and understand that the couch is not the wind, but putting another candidate up is the win. That's where you get the leverage. But hey, what do I know, jay I just keep saying the same thing every chance I get. So that's what's gonna happen. On abortion. Take us through a couple of more things than they were going to go ahead and wrap up. I won't think you want the people to know about before we get out of here. Time one by so fast today, I know, listen, but I say.
So, can I be Patty?
Can I go back a little bit on this I was looking at I just saw this pop up. You know, Roland Martin is on X which is Elon, and you know, I don't normally talk about commentation, but I just want to see what he said.
He said geez.
Timberlind and the Real Swiss Beats announced on June tenth that they are teaming up with Elon Musk to distributed versus online on this app. Elon is the man who opening promotes accounts that degenerates black people. He attacks the black doctors and pilots. But it's just interesting that he's actually saying it on the app. So until I guess we still understand why it need to be said, because the conversation is there, like you still have to engage in these other places. I get it, but I also just want to make it known that you're still on the app and the engagement still helps them. So just just just one last point with that that they're talking about.
Okay, gotcha. I thought you want to say something else.
I saw Roland Martin shout out to Roland Martin's he's he's in a DMV.
He's definitely down here. I saw a picture of him the other day. He has it.
He had a shirt on that says vote like a black woman. It says vote like a black woman, implying that you know, just go ahead and vote Democrat down ballot. And that post pissed a lot of people off. A lot of people probably didn't see it because he will block you, Roland Martin will block your ass on Twitter quick. But yeah, I thought that as well. All Right, this is another story, final story. I came up with tests and I picked it because you're always talking about how the importance of local government and how governor are.
Extremely, extremely extremely powerful.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore he issued pardons for more than one hundred and seventy five thousand marijuana convictions. This is absolutely huge. A lot of folks down here are talking about it. The pardons will target low level marijuana possession and paraphernalia charges, benefiting approximately one hundred thousand individuals. This act of mass clemency reflects shifting public attitudes towards marijuana legislation. Maryland Governor Wes Moore described his executive order as the quote most sweeping state level parton quote in US history. The pardons announced to coincide with Juneteenth, and it aimed to address the disproportionate impact on black and brown communities. So I want to pause there, but I do want to say that I remember when wes Moore, Governor Wes Moore was elected, when he won the election, and people, a lot of black folks that I know, we're saying that, oh he was you know, he was unfit. He's a Democrat. He's going to be a democratic, X Y and Z X me he's a Democrat.
Like what are y'all talking about. He's a Democrat like them to be Democrats. But go ahead.
Yeah, there was calling this man of shield. They were saying that he was a part of the boulet. They were saying all these discouraging things about why he should not have been elected, you know, as a black person that expected him to do something I guess terrible. But I really love the fact that he parted over one hundred and seventy five thousand marijuana convictions. That's going to impact approximately one hundred thousand people down here.
That is what They're just gonna move the gold posts, Jay, Those same people are going to say what it don't mean to win in all criminals, so you'll never win up again. The demograph you're talking about, they don't like liberals and they just need to say it. That's where people get frustrated with the group that you're talking about. They just need to go ahead and say it. I'm a black conservative, period, Just say it. Stop moving the gold post. You know, because Democrats are Democrats that I expect them to vote, eat, look, talk, move, Walt speak like a Democrat, regardless of the color. When you run as a Democrat, you're subscribing to the Democrat policy. So what the hell are we talking about? And then when they do do something positive, it's never acknowledged. I try to be fair and acknowledged on things I care about. A criminal justice reform, so regardless if it's this or if it was the first step back the Trump pushed, support it.
I support either or. But we're not the people that you're talking about.
They're not interested in policy, they're interested in Democrat versus Republican. But they don't want to say they're Republican. That's just the bottom line. And they need to just go ahead and say it. Just go ahead and say it and start a new movement and take over the Conservative Party.
So they can go ahead and do that. But I wanted to shout out Governor Wes Moore for this. I think this is really great. These are the types of folks that we need to be getting in office that's going to push these type of policies that are going to address disparities within the criminal justice system and stuff. So just to break down their numbers a little bit more, again, the Order parties over one hundred and fifty thousand and misdemeanor convictions for simple cannabis possession and eighteen thousand convictions for drug paraphernalia, and approximately twenty five percent of these convictions are from Baltimore, underscoring the city's a significant impact, right.
And so the Washington Post, no, I was just gonna say finish, yeah.
Just also, the Washington Post is the first one, the first entity or outlet that reported on this story, and just really quickly at assigning at the signing event that Governor Wesmore did for this legislation. He said, quote, this is about changing how both government and society view those who have been walled off from opportunity because of broken and uneven policies end quote.
This also shows importance again of governor state level. So shut out to them, shut out to liberal ass Governor Newsom, it's a lot that a lot of people don't like what he's done. But when it's come to criminal justice, before the Homies that's been in the thirty forty years, they had gun enhancement, a gang enhancement case, already did their time for the crime, but had double the time because of an affiliation with a gang, which is pretty much everybody in everybody in LA. I'm telling you the Homies is they're doing camp. They ready to get on campaign trail right now.
To make sure.
Governor Newsom has stated were talking about people that had forty year plus sentences Jay that has did their time like twenty years, but got an extra time.
So again, this is why governors matter.
So if you don't care about Biden and Trump, I don't either, but at least pay attention to what your state is doing and what your governor's doing and This should be the thing that should be plastered all over the shade room in Hollywood, Unlock and all these blogs. People should know about this. They should be putting West I guess on the campaign trail. But then again, maybe not because Biden got to speak for himself. So shout out to wes On that I'm definitely gonna post it. I didn't post it, miss it missed me till you brought us. To be honest with you, we can't catch everything, so I'm glad you brought it to our attention, and I'm definitely gonna post it. They say he the next Obama. They always called me the next Obama. But to be honest with you, I think they'll folks can't see me, but I did air quotes. The Obama era is over. If you if politics is about finding the next the black Trump, who's gonna be the gangst on our end? That's gonna push the line no matter what, like straight up, some of them are successful.
But speaking of Maryland when I'm mayor.
Of but speaking of DC, mayor of Marion Barry, they couldn't get rid of him for nothing because he took care of his people. So shout out to him, shout out to rest and peace. Shut out to Eric Mays, rest in peace. You can be against as long as you're taking care of your people. So the Obama era is over with. So I don't know if that'll be wes, but shut out to him with that, and thank you for you know, bringing that to his attention. I know you're not allowed to say anything positive about a Democrat because you're in the conscious community, but I think it's.
You gotta shift that narrative.
And it's the final point that I wanted to bring up, and I think this is important test it. It's been almost two years after Maryland voters approved a constitutional amendment legalizing recreational marijuana for people twenty one and older. So, you know, again people into the post. Maryland voters improved the constitutional amendment to legalize marijuana recreation marijuana use. So now we're seeing the governor come after that, after you know, two years later, to.
Parton all of those people. And I think it's great.
So as states are moving towards, you know, legalizing or decriminalizing recreational marijuana, we should really be putting the press on these elected officials, these governors in particular to pardon those who have been.
Yeah to follow that. And again you mentioned two years. Again, it takes time to do things. It just so people know it takes time to do things. But as an elected official, you don't have a lot of time. You got four years, so you better make sure you pop as soon as you get in there. At least let people know what you're trying to do until you get it done. And when you get it done, make sure everybody hear it everywhere because you just cannot afford to lose that voter. So with that said, again a reminder listen to the last week's episode about Michigan and why that demographic is key.
I want you to get that game.
If you are a political signs nerd, if you are a campaign operative nerd, I want you to get that. I broke that down a great, great, great, great great detail on why states matter, electoral College, why Michigan is important. Want to make sure you guys are keeping up in class because we keep a lot of his information we build up on. It's not just one time we build upon. We keep adding to and adding to an add too, So I need to make sure y'all stay up to date in the class. In a straight shot, no chase of class, so that you won't get left behind. So thank you so much again Jade for joining us. If you missed it, make sure you wind and listen to it. We covered a couple of different things today. We cover Diddy losing the key to the City, Swiss Beats and this new deal, Timberland and Swiss Beats with Elon Musk, Grandmother juneteenth, abortion, peel access and the Supreme Court and Governor West and Maryland, the issues some pardon so great information as much as we could possibly get in about forty forty five minutes. If you love this, please can you write a review? Can you do your girl a favor? There is a review section at the end of Apple where you get to give us five stars. If you don't want to give us five stars and keep your opinion to yourself. But if you do want to give us five stars, go down and put vib stars, put a comment. I think you also can put feedback on the Apple. I'm sorry on the iHeart app as well, but Apple is where we've accumulate those reviews over the years. But we need to step that back up because it's been a minute since somebody has wrote a review and I don't ask for it often, but we need to step that back up. I'm trying to put a lot more energy into season five. It's time to boost it up and really make this podcast stronger than it's ever been. But I want to thank you guys for rocking with me every year as I've tried to switch it up see what works best. I did a lot of interviews at first, and I went to Just Me. Then I went to IG Live because I had a chance to interact, and now you know, I have a co host that's helping me, you know, push through this. So barro me, guys, as I can continue to try to get better and see what works. But I don't know if it's working if you don't tell me, So make sure you reach out to me. I do appreciate the private the private congrats, but guys, this is a business.
It's a media business.
So sending me a private message to say, oh, you're doing a great job because you don't want to look like you kissing ass or being a simp. We got to get out of that because I'm laying it all on the line, you know, giving everything to this. Jade's leaning all out on the line. We got to be all right with giving people public compliments, and that matters. You know, we don't fund this show. This money has to come from somewhere. It's not charging you anything at all. So do me a favor. Put the review where it actually counts, where they actually see it. Sending me a DM that I may not get because you're in my message request it doesn't help, and reading it doesn't help.
I don't need the pad on the back to feel good.
We need the powers that be to know that, yes, although podcasts listeners are seventy percent white, there are some black people in the podcast space that would like to hear something else besides who dated who, who broke up with who? Who was twerking? Nothing wrong with all of that, because Jade and I keep up with all that mess too. That's just not what we use this show to do. Every now and then, we have a little bit of pop culture, but that's not where we're dedicating our time and our energy, and our resources and our talent. We're really trying to give you good information. So guys, subscribing is not enough. I'm asking you to take just a couple of seconds and do a review. Just so the powers can be to know that where we are investing in the right in the right space.
So, guys, thank you so much.
Make sure you check us out twice a week on the Straight Shot, No Chase of podcast.
We continue to get better.
Jay, thank you again, the gorgeous Jayhrel thank you for joining me in joining us.
I'll let us say goodbye because I never feel thank you.
Listeners, thank you so much.
Papers, you know, I'm your I am your Supreme Court correspondent. That's right, like the cover STDs STD corresponding when that news kind of comes out, and just different topics. And so we're gonna be looking at all of these things and tracking them.
Okay, we will.
And Jay does a great job, y'all producing for all things test on, So shut out to her. She spends a lot a lot of time, which, as she says, at the news desk. She'll send me text, I'm at the news desk. I'm at the news. That's she got a real news, that's for real, y'all. So so it's a lot of work, Jade understood, it's a lot of work. She comes from, you know, doing a lot of commentary on her own on fly neuwbeing queen still does, but working with me this last I guess what eight nine months or something, she got a little bit real.
Oh, it's got really real.
I mean, this is a way, This is a whole different level of doing media, being doing media and really paying attention to being accurate, and then also seeing how stories change over time, and then watching you do your thing right, condensing maybe a thousand hours worth of information and learning that you have and being able to land it in what ninety seconds right when you're when you're on national television. Right.
It's just it's just really interesting.
So I think a lot people don't have a clue.
And again Jaye found out though this is a constant like saying, oh man, we Misshon on a Breafast club. I miss y'all too, But I also want y'all to know forty hours a week at Best went to that and I still had a show on Revolt, and I still have a show tap in with Tez. Y'all, make sure y'all check that out on That's where you get to see Jade and I the visual on Thursdays. Still got that, Still have straight shot, no Chaser, still got a whole seventeen year old. Happy birthday to my baby that turns seventeen today, a whole kid and an entire business that I run.
So, guys, this is a lot. You see, and still do Fox.
News like I do a lot in media, but can I tell y'all that's not even the majority of my business, Like I actually do work, y'all for real, So this is a lot. So I miss y'all. I look forward to tapping in with the Brevice Club every now and then. But guys, we just have to like reorganize the time, you know, we got to realize to organize the time.
I'm only one person.
And without Jade, I am not lying, none of this will be possible at this stage with these multiple, multiple things that I'm required to do. So again, I can't thank Jade enough. Pay it's not enough, but also giving her public acknowledgment for her leadership of just really taking the lead and doing things that I don't have to ask it's already done.
And shout out to.
Jade for leading Michelle Watley's campaign as well, and so she has really that was a campaign that literally started just a few weeks ago with sixty days out and Jay Jump right in that and so she'll be interviewing the Michelle. You guys, make sure you tap in with that, you know, hear that interview, because I think that will be helpful informative as well. So we're busy over y'all were working, working, and to really try to do all we can to stay on top of stuff as much as possible. So that's the least I can get as a follow y'all, invite five friends. Just invite five friends. That's all we ever asked. Big things coming up, big things popping. Then I hope I can doing another season. We'll revolt, but a little bit different. Not tez on ten, but something close to more on the digital, more raw, more live, more quick, but another level of that. Very excited and be honest, I thought everything was kind of over it. I thought Diddy's actions kind of ruined it all. So that's not the case. That is what I know so far. The employees go back and listen to that episode. The employees now have ownership of the company. That is just awesome, and they have just done a phenomenal job of not losing the work that's been put into that network that literally could have been lost overnight.
Some people did get laid off, they did have to cut back.
It hasn't been all good, but they have really had to restructure everything in six to seven eight months. And I'm sure there'll become a time where maybe they'll be an interview about that, you know, like on what happened, But now it's not the time.
Now they just have their head down and trying to make it work.
So I'm excited about that because that was just deeply, deeply depressing, really depressing to put so much work into something that's been one of my most proudest things to do. Because we don't have black owned networks and I was a part of B and C and that went bankrupt, and then to have what happened with Revolt again knocking doning, nothing did, he said, I'm just saying, bottom line, you know, the indirect consequence was that a black owned network was about to be in peril, if not in peril, and that I just had to take a break.
It was too many losses, back to back to back to back.
You know, a lot of people don't watch Revolt, A lot of people don't take time to do it. But we work out ass off over there. I mean, you got people doing four and five and six jobs. It's a beautiful studio. I was the flagship show, you know, for the first show that came out of the news division.
They had Revolt Black News. There was a news segment that they did once a week, but I was the first show they came out of the news division, the flagship show, And we had so many plans and so many different things. And I'm telling you, guys, just from a selfish stampoint, I'm not talking about meat in my brand because people don't really watch Revolt. What it was gonna do for the community to be able to.
Have it meant a lot to go in and everybody Black, the editors, the producers, the cameraman, everything across the board. Like it's like, man, we finally we're here, and for that and good content that people need, you know. So I'm excited about the next step for a Revolt. May not be long episodes, may not be all the glitz and glound, but it at least to be something and that's what matters to me, hooking people in. People still watching that show, Jane, I still get people saying, oh, I'm watched watching People still go It takes time for this stuff to circulate, you know, stuff has to get out there on the internet. So thank you guys for supporting me on all the platforms that I do. Tap In with Tez guys, I normally don't talk about other shows on other shows, but I'm gonna do that. We I really want to see tap In with Tez grow as well.
That is new. That is with Chris Gotti, who's IRV Gotti's brother, and we're trying to build that out. That is our video.
The podcast is audio and we do that every week tap In with Tez and they have some great ideas. But again, stuff has to be funded. People have to tap in, you know, to make this stuff work. So requires a lot of work on our end. So again, Jay, thank you for all that you do want to give your flowers. People know you are not just sitting there being a pretty face. You work your ass off and I am not. Because of Jade. I've been able to certainly double my business because of her.
So thank you so much.
Jay, Yes, thank you so much for your men splortship and leadership and coaching and all the good things.
And get big business to come y'all. All right, y'all will see you next time.
Peace. Peace.
