High-risk HPV infections in men may be associated with slightly higher levels of dead sperm cells and other important healthcare public policy updates.

You don't want to.

Ask your question real good, Let's just keep it real straight shot with no chaser. I'm gonna get a little bit rougher. I'm here for it. Those who really believed in the American process, all of us. Street shot, no chaser with your Girl Testlim figure Out on the Black Effect Podcast Network Network. Welcome to everybody, a straight shot, no chase it. It's your girl Testlim figure Out on the Black Podcast Network on iHeartRadio with my girl Jade Horel. How are you.

Hey, I'm good? How are you test?

I'm doing good. We had such a enlightening conversation last week about serving leadership, the importance of serving leadership. That's a theme that I'm gonna always talk about, always insert always things that we should be looking for or be mindful of. You know, I'm totally fine and people say I don't want to serve it, I want a business person. That's fine, we'll see how it works out. But really understanding you know what that what when that what that oath is about? When they're lifting their hand up to say I'm going to serve and I pledge allegiance, you know, to the country, it really is a serving role. It's really not designed to be about yourself, and people that make it about themselves sometimes end up going to jail. But anyway, that's another conversation. But one of the stories I mentioned was about health care. And I've told this story you know, many times about my parents and you know why health care is so important to me, my best friend who's needed rehab for the last five or six years, and even my own personal you know, stories and journey through health care. And so being the excellent producer you are, it prompted you to curate, you know, some more stories on health care. And I want guys to understand, you know, we are going to talk about politics. We do talk about politics. I do insert that, but I'm really trying to make sure that we use straight shot, no chaser to continue to give you information to others that I'm talking about everybody. I'm at Trump Chum Trump, Chump Trump and Harris Harris, Harris, Harris Harris, and we do do those things. But I love this podcast because it gives me the ability to talk about stories that people are not talking about. So this is really for the people that want to consume information, consume stories, you know, get stuff that you just don't hear. If you want to know my thoughts on you know, what happened last week or what happened to day or you know that in the moment in the no stuff, make sure you follow me on Instagram and you can, you know, get a lot of my feedback right then. Plus I'll be attaching parents some dope music to all of my all of my posts, so you get a lot of entertainment as well as education. And we do do that on the podcast. I don't want people think we're not going to talk about those things, you know, especially as urgent you know, when things happen and we need to discuss it in real time. But I do. I do pride myself on, you know, being able to have this space and shout out to our heart and black Effect to give information that others are just simply not talking about stuff. It's lost in the weed. So Jay, run us through what you want us to know on these healthcare updates.

Absolutely.

So.

I came across a really interesting article from the Associated Press, and it says that there's a town in Pleasantville, Texas that reflects a broader narrative of environmental injustice faced by communities of color in the US, and a lot of this is because of industrial pollution. So so many folks are experiencing health disparities because of an industrial pollution.

Excuse me, just so the pause right there again. And we call that environmental racism just so people know, you know, and they can condust your pollution. But that goes under pe would say, what is environmental racism? That's what it falls under.

Okay, go ahead, absolutely, And it dates back to World War two, where when Pleasantville, Texas offered a rare opportunity for black families, in particular to buy homes and a new thriving community that they market it. However, the subsequent development of the interstate six hundred and ten loop the six ' one to zero, along with the growth of nearby heavy industry, introduced significant environmental hazards that have had lasting impacts on the health and well being of black residents since World War two, right, and so the Biden administration they put into place many environmental justice efforts in order to help to correct this. Since twenty twenty one, the Biden administration has made significant commitments to address environmental justice, particularly in historically marginalized communities aka black communities or communities of color, black and brown communities. However, people want to define it like pleasant bill And so these are some of the Biden Administration's environmental justice efforts. One increased funding and resources. The Biden Administration has directed tens of billions of dollars towards environmental justice initiatives, with a focus on improving air quality, reducing pollution, and supporting community led efforts to monitor and address environmental hazards. So, for instance, test this town of Pleasantville, Texas received federal funding to conduct air quality testing, which a lot of rural communities don't have access to, you know, those types of resources in order to test their air quality. And this is essential first step towards holding polluters accountable and pushing the cleaner air initiatives. And this is something that really hits home to me because my father in particular, you know, he passed away of an autoimmune disorder that was a respiratory disease, you know, and air quality was something that was very, very very important. And it's good to see that folks in rural communities are getting access to this.

So pause right there, let's just kind of just want to unpack this a little bit. So again, I understand that we want policies that literally say this is for black people, and I get that, and I'm all about that, and I'm pushing all of that, but I do want us to recognize when we see policies that disproportionately help us too, Like we have to be fair about something if you wanted to say it and literally them say it. I don't know about that, but I do want us to be intelligent enough to know that if we're talking about pollution, environmental racism cases that we worked on where people are getting cancer because they lived in poor areas, when we look at things like flint with bad water, these are things that disproportionally affect black people. Yes, does it benefit other people, Yes it does. If it bothers you that it benefits other people, you're going to have a hard time in politics, period, because most things that are done for anybody in public and policy government, other people are going to benefit from it. I get the idea of saying we don't want this only for us, we want this only for us, we want I get it. I'm all about that, but at some point you also have to be fair and recognize things that do help us. It doesn't mean you don't still push for other things, but it's crazy to not acknowledge that some of these policies, whether there's Democrat are Republican, but acknowledge when the policies disproportioning do affect us. So I just wanted to say.

That, yeah, absolutely, and these are one of those because when we talk about environmental racism in particular, their whole communities and generations of black folks that have been exposed to air pollutants, you know, pollutants and soil and things like that. So that was the first initiative that this ap article talked about, which was increased funding and resources. The second point that it had hit on is policy reforms and stricter regulations. So the administration, the Biden administration, has worked to embed environmental justice principles into federal policies and regulations. This includes developing tighter standards aimed at reducing cancer rates and eliminating lead pipes to protect children from neurological damage. So they're taking a proactive approach to that. Another point that was laid out in this article is that federal agencies, including the EPA, the Environmental Protection Agency, have made concerted efforts to engage with communities and activists, soliciting their input on policies, and ensuring that funding has directed towards funding is directed towards local organizations that understand the unique needs of their community. So community engagement is another sector that the Body administration is putting money into. So I thought that this article is really important. I would love to see this definitely in every single community around the country, but definitely within black communities. And it's so important that we really talk about rural communities like these are folks that they can't just walk down the street and go to this door, you know, or walk down the street and or even have you know, many times oftentimes have the resources to go to Walmart to buy an airfield there. So we definitely need the testing all of these things coming from the government in order to support our folks.

Mm hmm yeah, for sure, good information, good stuff. But again, you're not working for the Biden campaign. You're simply talking about these are the camp but these are this. Yeah, this is this is the policy that they're doing. And again, we gotta get out of that. Jay. Well, I'm not gonna say we gotta get it. I'm gonna speak for me. Nobody's gonna shame me on talking about certain policies that I think are beneficial. You know this. You ain't supposed to do this. You ain't spposed to this gang bang and stupid ass mentality of you can't say this. Oh mall, let me make sure I make the disclaim I'm not supporting by it's not about but we're talking about the policy. If it's a policy that's I think is beneficial, no matter who it is, you're not gonna shame in and wanting things that benefit the community. I just be glad. You know, I've enjoyed the ride. I've enjoyed the ride of this era. But I'm really ready to get off this train. Like, seriously, I've had enough of this whatever this is that you feel like you have to say a disclaimer all the time about who you ain't support, not support if it's something that you support. I just I'm ready to get off this train. I'm ready for the everything being about the politician and the name and the celebrity behind it, I guess, or the people that fall in love with politicians and get their heart broke or whatever it is. You know, whatever people are dealing with. You hate Democrats whatever, Why youn't ever talk about Republican I'm glad to talk about publican politicians. It is one that I agree with, like first at Back or small business initiatives or two am. I'm glad to talk about that, but I'm not going to like when we talk about it any other an the other episode and you have said, you know, by the way, I'm not supporting this ticket. Well, by the way, if it's a policy that I supported, it happens to be on this ticket, and ninety eight percent is on this I'm okay with that. And I still can say, Joe Biden, yes I didn't like what you did with the nighty four crime Bill. Yes, Harris, you need to do more. Yet, like again, people gotta decide it you're going to be You don't have to vote. I don't give a shit what y'all do, But at some point there has to be an understanding that you're not voting for just one thing. You're just not No, this is a government. And it makes me think more about the term. What does it really mean to be a single issue voters? To them, what it means is I am going to hold my vote unless you do this one thing. And that's why if people feel like that's what you want to do, I know that I cannot. I don't care what it is. If it's reparations, if it is the Palestine movement, whatever it is, I respect. If you're saying I'm gonna exit out of the out of the program, meaning because I want people to understand, we're not talking about just exing out of Biden and our Harrison Trump. If you're saying you're exiting out the program, then you're saying doesn't matter who the school superintendent is. It doesn't matter who the school board is. As society, you know how our children learn, what they learn, what they eat what you know, what what what's going on in their classrooms, if teachers get suspended, fired, if they do something inappropriate, what the discipline problems are. That means you're you're saying you're you're exing out of that, you're exing out of I don't give a damn who the police chief is. Just aside, Just hire whoever you want to, mister mayor, because I'm exit out the program. Hey, you know what, I don't care if the sheriff is the county because you got your county sheriff. You have a city police, county sheriffs, And I'm just using Orlando's example, is an elected position. Our old sheriff, Jerry Dimmons, became the mayor for county. His wife is Valve DIMIs, who became congress. She was the former, yes, she was a former when she she got appointed to police chief. So she got that as a job. Her husband always had to be elected as a because they he would always say he got to do the real work. She got appointed as police chief and he was elected as a sheriff. She went on and ran for Congress in one and her husband, Jerry Demmons, who was always in an elected position, went and was elected county mayor. And now he's turned out. And now my girlfriend's getting ready to run for mayor. Tiviney Moore Russell, who I've worked on all her camp, most of her campaigns. She started out as a county commissioner and then she ran to be the first she's first black woman to be clerk of courts. It's only three clerk of courts in Florida. She's one of them. And now she's running for you know, she'd be running for mayor because Jerry's turned out, Let's use that as an example. Clerk of courts, do y'all know, like what anything, whether you're talking about Jerry duty or tickets or child support or the systems they have set up, the legal assistance that you get, the free legal assistance and all that, the clerk of courts is in charge of that. So it matters. Who is the clerk of courts. It matters. So when people say, and that's an elected position. So when if anybody that's why it amazes me these people are set up here on child support, don't understand like who's setting up these policies these programs. Judges are elected positions. So when people say, oh, the system ain't fair to child support, yes, it is a system, but a lot of that falls in one judge lap or the clerk of courts, or how they got stuff set up, or how they got payment plans or how they got or all of that. So when you say you're exing out of the system, I'm just gonna know you're talking about that too. I need you to know you're talking about that. So say business people, if you are a business person and you got to go pay your license to get certified. You need to know who your city commission is if you trying to open up a club, a strip club or whatever. Did. They had a big old thing about that in Atlanta, about staying open till four in the morning. Killer Mike was very much a part of that, you know, liquor licenses, things like that. When I went to Chicago, because you know, I was up there coming to DNC and I was like, dang, I can't find nobody opening, not at on Monday. What the hell's going on? I used to live in Chicago in two thousand and seven. You would thank Chicago's the second largest city to New York. I couldn't find nothing open. They said, ma'am. The liquor license is so expensive. Nobody wants to open up on days unless they know they're gonna be able to get their money back.

Wow. Right.

These are the things that again that you vote on zoning. Where can something be built? Not built? Kill a Mike and uh go people go look it up, Go look it up, kill a Mike, two chains, all of them. They were very much involved. Because it's not just strip club. Oh yeah, because of the holes. Bring on the holes. No, it's in whole industry that pays people, that pays balances that pays those weren't like, for real, going through school, taking care of their kids, business owners, place where people feel like they can go get wings, talk business, do all that. They were very involved in that. When you're talking about gentrification, moving people out, moving out black business. These are things that you vote on, guys. So if you don't understand the process, just say that. But to say I'm just not gonna be in the process at all, I gonna stay. If you say the federal level, okay, that's fine, But let's be clear about it because it's looking real ignorant to say I'm just gonna completely I don't give it THEMN if it's your water when they decide, hey, you need to only do your with some states, you know, especially like in Texas, only water certain amount of days, certain amount of time. This that Texas when you got the grid, the power grid going out. These are things that elected positions, property appraise to decide how much your house is worth. Elected position. If you can afford to get out of everything that involves you and what you touch, God bless you. But some of us got to stick around here and really figure this out. Yep, that's my rank.

No, it was a very very insightful rant.

We just got to get out of this. I'm not saying I'm over this Sickeret, I'm not. I want to make sure like you ain't gonna shame me and the policy that I support. Am I sarrogon? No, Am I gonna be out of cheerleading crashing out? No, because I understand the moment, and I understand where we are, and I understand that there's a lot of still got to learn. I'm I'm not getting paid to be out of crashing out going around being no surrogon about how this part because people again they attached politics to names, you know, and I talk about policy. I'm gonna talk about talk about policy that may not be attractive enough, seductive enough, or whatever it is, but that's just what it is. Because I know policy is gonna be policy once, once this cycle's over and two cycles over, you know somebody else is gonna be in that position. And guess what if somebody's going to be in the position, whether you vote or not, just let people know.

Right true, whether you stay home and vote for the couch or go out to the polls, someone will be elected and they.

Will nobody be elected. There's some more you want to cover as well.

Absolutely, So, the Biden administration announced recently an expansion of maternal home visit programs. I saw a really interesting article Tesla in about this out of CNN. So the Biden Harrison Administration's recent announcement to expand maternal maternal home visiting programs represents a significant step towards addressing maternal and early childhood health disparities in the US, particularly in underserved communities. And when I see terms like underserved communities, I'm thinking about Black communities initially, you know, first and foremost. So they invested four hundred and forty million dollars in the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting program that's an actual official federal government program. The abbreviation is mie CHV MIEHV. And they announced an additional one hundred and eighteen million dollars for the senders for disease control. They're aim to improve maternal health outcomes by offering support and resources directly to mothers and babies in their homes. So, you know, those are two separate initiatives. The first one again is a recap is four hundred and forty million dollars, and the other one is an additional one hundred and eighteen million dollars. So here are the key aspects of this expansion under the Biden Harris administration's initiative. One is home visiting programs, right, so mothers get supports around pursuing higher level education. Also, maternal health counselors and coordinators are able to come out and meet with new mothers or mothers. Mental health resources are also available. We know that women experience a lot of like what do you call it, the postpartum depression, so that is really really.

That's a big thing.

Yeah, that's a huge thing. Right. And then also guidance on infant care, especially for women you know who don't know about how to care for an infant.

So that's very important.

So the home visiting program is important. The next thing that was outlined here is the impact.

On They said they wouldn't outlign on no policy.

Well, the Biden Harris administration they recently announced that they're expanding the maternal health visiting programs and so these are the things that it actually.

So people that had So you're saying people in the comments. Just ain't got the update. They don't have an update.

I mean, these are pore already on the books, right because this is this is and this is where your polage side and political expertise and organizing expertise comes into play, right test because the Biden Harris administration, they were already working, they had already announced this particular initiative. So VP Harris is also running for president, right, so she's still also a part of this initiative. So I would think that this initiative is gonna what carry over potentially if she were to be re elected as the president or elected as a president. So yeah, this is already in the works. They've already announced this, This money is already earmarked for that. So and I just wanted to, you know, make sure we remember that the US is one of has one of the highest rates of maternal and infant mortality among industrialized nations. It's very very, very disproportionate, you know, in terms of like how much money this country actually has and makes and what the quality of life is supposed to be. And it's disproportionately higher within the black community, with black women experiencing, you know, issues with maternal health and infant health. So we'll see how you know this turns out. It's this is great news. Any administration that focuses on maternal and infant health in early childhood, home visiting programs or healthcare is great and we should see more of that.

MM.

Well, we're speaking about reproductive health tests. I would like to also make mention of another article I've come across from CNN. It said that there's a high risk of HPV infections and men that may be associated with slightly higher levels of dead sperm cells.

But I know when I saw you said that with the dead sperms, I like, but you know what, let's.

Think about this for a second before we get into the meat and potatoes or the details of this article. Okay, you know how many women go out looking for like you know, they get fraternity of fertility treatments, et cetera, et cetera. And oftentimes, you know, women often think that it's because something that you know they may have or dispersed they have. But as I'm doing research into this, there's so many men whose sperm sales are dead or compromised for many factors, and HPV is one of them. I know that the HPV vaccine was heavily, heavily, heavily marketed initially to women, and then they lowered the age you know, to adolescence, but particularly with girls. So we're seeing that the HPV or human papalona virus infections and men are also really really high and their spur themselves unfortunately, are dying and it's making them very very high risk for these sources of infections.

Mm hmm, Yeah, I thought that was interesting and HBB, that's a big thing. You know, there's actually I know, you just may not be one of the loves. A lot of conversation put it that way. A boy vaccinations and things like that. You know, they talked to my daughter about it about you know, taking that risk, you know, trying to make sure because it can develop into cancer. So again, these are one of the things that we talk about, you know, whether that's not talked about often, you know, our health care and again who's disproportionately affected by not having the information, not having the resources, not having the clinics, not having the money going to seriously, like our black men actually having access to health care, not all of them, because plenty of middle class and upper class black people, you know, go get their help. But just going by the data, just the data, you know, based upon what we see and not going to the doctor of these are things you know that you just you just wouldn't know. So hopefully you know this article can help somebody and you know, try to get a little bit more understanding and really start talking about our health.

Yeah, it's important because men are not routinely sprainged for HPV when they go walk there, right like we get tested. I don't know how many things women get tested for when we get our annuals.

And HBV don't even show up unless you get tested. I want the things to show up.

So that is very very great. And you know, so shout out to the brothers. Get your sperm checked and make sure you request HPV, you know, infection, you know, test or battery just.

To see m to see if you've got it and prevent it from being spread around. So again shout out again to the brothers. Make sure you guys follow the podcast. Make sure you know that you have us locked in some of these conversations again, fiery passionate conversations, stuff that we go back and forth, a battle and some of them are just information that you just need to know. So I hope that you found this healthcare conversation important. Shout out to Jay for curating these stories. Guys. She really does a good job and spend a lot of time, you know, trying to create things and concepts that are important and to talk about things that you know that you think is helpful to our community. And so I want to thank her again for being such a great producer and curating the majority of things, you know, that we talk about, so that so that I'm not just on here rambling, so that we have some actual information.

Your air spirit and you have a wealth of life experience and then a hell of a lot of academic and intellectual experience, and you know, it's just whatever comes up. You know. You you you put the jewels out there in the gyms and we picked them up to so it's always really appreciated.

I appreciate it. Well. I thank you as well for keeping us organized, ructured, keeping the things together. I can always trust that you you know, you know you you know, you have it together. And I'm excited about the selection season. We've done a lot almost at the home end, you know, almost over you said, a couple of episodes ago. You can't wait for it to be over.

So I can't wait. People are they're really acting up, people want to cut each other over this selection.

I actually thought it was gonna be roughed, little bit rougher, to be honest, really well.

Yeah, I mean there is such thing as an October surprise, so I.

Thought it was gonna be much. You know, I think the Biden slitting, you know, it wasn't really exciting when he was on because you just wasn't people did. People did not want that rematch, and I got tired of hearing that all year, the rematch. We don't want the rematch, We don't want to re Okay, but that's what the candidates are. Okay, that's what it is. So when Harris came in and flipped the script, it's brought some excitement, if nothing else, something new to talk about. I'm not talking about her exciting running, but just it flipped it up. It switched it up. You know, as far as the media cycle was going, because it's been talking about Biden and Trump for a year, how they're.

Saying that there could be they're saying that there could be another surprise. I mean, I've been listening. I've been keeping my ear to these media political streets, and people are saying now that RFK Junior has endorsed Donald J. Trump, that these conspiracy theories. I don't know. I'm just saying right like, they're saying that perhaps Trump could get rid of JD vance.

He ain't had no RFK girl making stop making this v You don't think that would be a good ticket. No, no, not at all. It's just ridiculous. It's thirty days before. We're sixty days before at this point. He made a bad pick and that step and it ain't gonna make no difference, you know, is girl? No what to bring with the twelve voters over?

That was Patty's task.

It's real like like please, so no, I know y'all want, you know, some big major but no, we're here. This is where we are. What are we now? Sixty days sixty seventy days somewhere? I can't.

I mean, there's not a lot of time at all.

That's so that's it. We're down to the wire.

This is we're two paychecks away from the next presidential nominee. Think about it like that.

Oh wow, yeah, okay, I don't even know what dates we own, so I don't know, but Bob Blinde is it's about to happen, So everybody get ready. I'm looking forward to it. I've worked my ass off this season. You worked your ass off this season. A lot was done, and I think this is probably the most, at least in the well. No, I can't say that, because being on the road with Bernie Sanders was a hell of a lot of work, so I can't say this was the most. But from a media standpoint, it certainly was all the local stuff I did and the national stuff I did and all of that, so that this was definitely a lot. So anyway, guys, thank you.

To the course back and before we end, though, I just want to acknowledge the fact that you're keeping up with all of this and all of your respective roles, with all of the information you have the talk game one point uh, and you still have to look pretty in the midst of it and look good do it like I do.

I'll be tired, I'd be. It's just a lot. It's a lot, it's a lot, a lot, a lot, just trying to keep up them. Again, I appreciate saying that, Jay, but again. If I didn't have you, I'm telling you, girl this, none of this would be happening at all. And there's still some other things I want to do before the season is over. So and and I'm not gonna lie like I'm ready to I'm ready to move on so we can know what the new what the new country is gonna look like. It's gonna be a big change jade Like, whatever it happened, whatever way it goes, whether it's VP Harris as the president, that's going to change, like, that's gonna shift some things. Whether you like it or not. It's it's going to change something. And that's for the good of the bad. I'm not saying, oh, it's gonna good, but the paradigm shifts if Trump is elected again. You better believe that's gonna shift something, you know. So I'm just ready to get to whatever we're gonna get to so we can start working our way out of that. You know, what is that gonna look? Like? Trump has said he cutting off the media, like he coming after the media. So the freedom to say this and say that that that that might be different. You know. And I know people say, oh Trump always say that, but he ain't gonna say that. But he always said, but he ain't gonna do it. Well, this was before he got thirty four felonies. So I believe him. I believe him. I believe that he has a vengeance. I believe that just because he said, I don't know why friend of mine put out a peace saying that about he always say that, don't mean he's gonna do it. Well, it's a little different this time. This time he really got he really gotta been debta. So I'm not interested in taking no chances. So, like I said, well we'll see either either way go, we'll see. So I'm ready to get to that jade because I'm already I've just had twenty twenty four fatigue. Started out with Cat Williams, and it's just been a roller coaster ever since.

Oh yes he did Cat Williams. He popped the year.

Off without him. Kendrick Lamar like, it's just been bottom line. I just it has just been bottom line, almost chaos or bottom line, one thing after the other after the other. When I think about this year, I don't really think about you know, some personal things in my life, but this was just not I started off the year really like, oh man, this is gonna be this that, this, you know, really having a really positive outlook on some things, and it just hasn't been that this year. Some great things have happened, but I'm just saying overall, it just seems like it's just I'm just ready to start over. Like, let's let's settle in because if Trump doesn't win, we don't have to see him again. We're dumb with that conversation. It's gonna be some lingering and you know, maybe two or three cycles on, but we can kind of get out of whatever is that we're in, you know what I mean, get back to some level of normalcy. But I will also say that Trump, that Trump has gotten more people involved in politics than ever before, at least paying attention. So I don't know, Jay, I'm just ready to move on. I'm ready to start the new year. You know, I'm relocating completely. My daughter is going to college, so for me, it's going to be another set of my life. You know that I'm that's changing, and so I'm not rushing, but I'm just ready to ready to get it. I feel like we're kind of stuck right now, so that that's kind well, thank.

You for helping us bring clarity to the chaos and you know, politically and organizing wise and otherwise, and we really appreciate it. And then also because the politics and the national world climate gets so heavy, you also bring its clarity with relationships, so we'll be talking about that soon too.

Yeah. No, so guys, tell Black Effect, make sure we get another season next year so we can continue doing what we're doing. Because either way it go, we either gonna cover the first black woman president, whether y'all say she black or not, we're gonna be covering that, or we're gonna be covered on Trump administration. Either way I go, it's gonna be a lot of media upcoming, and so I just want to be settled in place. You know, I'm ready to go, having having whatever tools we need to cover that and to continue to teach. So hopefully you'll still be around, Jake, because we've got a lot of work. Yep. All right, guys again, make sure you follow Straight Shot No Chaser, Invite a friend, let's grow what we have. Straight Shooters, thank you so much for how let you next time.
