Debates and Beatdowns!

Published Jul 3, 2024, 2:01 AM

Tezlyn Figaro and Jade Harriell discuss the Biden vs Trump Revolt debate watch party and the Rick Ross security beatdown!

Ask your question. Let's just keep it real, straight shot with No Chaser. I'm gonna get a little bit rough. I'm here for it. Those who really believe in the American process, all of us straight Shot, No Chase, with your girl testing figure out on the Black Effect podcasting at work, at work? All right, what's happening? Everybody? Testlim figure out? Straight Shot No Chaser, Straight Shot. But I have a little bit of some type of congestion or cold or I don't know what it's trying to figure out, figure out what it's trying to do. I don't know if my throat wants to be sore, don't want to be sore, if it's just a sinus, or if I'm coming on with a full cold. But nothing stops the Straight Shot, No Chasing Podcast. So we are here. My co host Jade Heral is with me again as we go through these stories. So much has been going on, Jade uh, I know we had a hard time figuring out what to talk about. There's so much. There's so much drama, drama on the political side, drama on the pop culture side, just drama, drama, drama, drama, And we're going to do our best to get through some of this right off the top.

So how are you, Jay, I'm doing well. Task. I'm just a little concern.

Did you catch some kooties from a specific individual with nasty energy ever.

Party? I'm open not. I don't know. I don't know if it's because I was in three different cities in the last two or three days flying. I did get on Spirit Airlines. You know that's allegedly forbid. But let's take apart because you know I'm I'm a loyal I'm very loyal to Southwest and Charlamage the envy. They talk about me a lot. They say it's a bus in the sky, but I actually this was my second time flying Spirit, and it was pretty it was decent. I didn't like I had to make a change and I wasn't able to make a change, so I lost my money for that. So getting a hold of customer service is damn near impossible with Spirit. But other than that, it got me the point A point B much cheaper. I got the big seat in the front. It's kind of off subject, but I got the big seat in the front and it wasn't a bad experience.

That's interesting because I saw an article today about spare airlines. They're trying to get rid of some of their junk fees so that more people will fly spare airlines. But yeah, I kind of agree with Charlamagne and Envy. It is a bust in the sky. I think I found it one time. I don't know if I would do it again. I'm a little bougie when it comes to flying.

But you didn't like about it though, Like the plane's new on the inside. It's definitely it looks better than Southwest on the inside. As far as I'm concerning, like, I'm trying to figure out, like bougie about what, Like what what are y'all looking for? I don't like that, Yes, you gotta pay for water, you gotta, right, but I guess I don't really want water and snacks, so it really didn't make no difference to me. But I'm trying to figure out, like what is it that y'all. I will say I do like Delta because they have the plugs my phone, but I always have a portable charger. So is this just a mental thing that we're Yeah, because you still arrive at the same place, the same airplane, the same location. It's all these other airlines so what's the deal.

And maybe the calibor of people.

Maybe I you know, I'm just a little bit bougie, but I've seen a lot on spirit and those seats. I mean, I'm glad you got a seat in the front, cause those seats in the back be cranked.

So but that's just like I mean, I guess all the seats be kramp and they are a little harder. I will say that they're a little harder than Southwest, but people don't. I like Southwest. Reason why I like Southwest is because it's very easy, no change fees, same day change. I get points, and so I use my everyday purchases like for everything I do for Southwest points, so I literally don't pay the fly anywhere. Every everywhere I fly is very rare. But if I fly as five dollars and sixty cents, Southwest has the best And this was not with this podcast of Battage, I'll getting this edition information. Southwest has the best rewards program. I also have an American Express with Delta, so I use my card with Delta. But to get a one way ticket somewhere with Delta, it's like twenty seven thousand points that I need a one way ticket on Southwyst. Anywhere is about six thousand points. So from twelve to fourteen thousand, sixteen thousand, I can get around your ticket anywhere, and I just can't get that with Delta. Delta makes you go through way too much to finally get you know, points. So I'm all about killing two birds one stone. If I use my credit card, even if I'm getting charge interest, I look at that as paying for a plane ticket. So I'm all about the win win, And Southwest really does have the best reward program out of all of them.

Okay, I'm gonna try that, but yeah, I love Delta because of the sky Lounge.

Of course, you definitely booshit. You definitely boozed you well, but.

No, you're feeling better. But I bought that there.

I know you mentioned Southwest, but I just had to take a jab straight out the gate since being straight sline, no chase. There was just making making sure you good, making sure you know none of that nasty energy that a certain individual Jule at the debate watch party brought to you gave you any cooties because it's.

Talk about it. So for those that did not watch, this to me was just a dream. You know. You guys know I've been talking about a political versus. You know, I've wanted, I wanted Timberland, and I still would love for them to hold something like that, just because they have a major platform and to have and you know, again seeing it whenever, to have the difference of opinions in that room from extreme you know, trumpers, Blexic folk to regular conservatives to demostaunch Democrats to activists. I mean, Jade, I'm telling you when I tell y'all to tune in next time, y'all better tune damn in.

Yeah, I just I just got mad, like every like when the debate was on. I didn't want to watch that debate right that that they were showing on you, because y'all did paint. Y'all did go over to the debate, but I wanted to stay in y'all's room right right right.

Shout out to Attorney Griggs. He was hosting his own debate party and never went. He stayed at hart Vent the all time because it was that lit. It was that the name of it was the culture speaks. Guys. I'll be in Atlanta for the next six months organizing, and we'll be doing more of those types of events, more pushed the line events. Very excited about that, but that was really we were supposed to do a debate. It was supposed to be a debate watch party. But I'm be honest with you, the conversation was so people were so involved in what we were talking about. Arguing about school choice, that was a very good conversation, school choice, talking about you know, immigration form, a little bit spent on that, but criminal justice, economics, like they were so involved in the issues that we just kind of ignored the debate. And I know the thing was about responding to the debate, but let's be honest, if we just talked two hours about the debate at the end, it would have simply been about Biden failed from halfway going to sleep and Trump was lying. And so I think, and there's some disagree met with some of my teammates. They wanted me to talk more about the debate, but I kept saying, we kept trying to talk about the debate, but they kept talking about the issues that matters to them, and that was the whole thing. The whole point was to remove the personalities Biden and Trump out of it and talk about the issues that matter to them and so that to me is what made it to me, you know, successful and great. I wish Gary Chambers could have actually been in the room. He was with us, but that was wonderful, like him and Telfer who was the trumper when they had that school choice, and I was over there being petty and you know, keeping it going, you know, stare in the pot. It was just wonderful day. I was just really really excited about it. There was some technical difficulties. I'll put that out there. There was some technical difficulties, some sound issues and all that. This was the first time the Revolt ever went live, you know on YouTube. They tested it out, but again testing it out and actually doing it for five hours straight. It's different. It hits very different. But I am just super proud O. The set was great. I mean, I just love it. You give me some of your odd points are what you know, I guess what you thought about it being a viewer of it, not just knowing me, but just being a viewer.

Yeah, being a viewer.

People were in the comments commenting before y'all even started, so people were in there super duper early. There were some technical difficulties in different parts, but it didn't stop people from leaving, like the numbers continue to increase, because my mom and I watched it the entire time, but I stayed in the YouTube room on my phone and we had it on the television, so it just looked beautiful. And then also to your point, having people micd for five hours is one thing, but there were like twelve people mic at the same time, so I know that, you know, from a production standpoint, that can also present its challenges.

And I love that.

Gary Chambers got to participate. I was said that he wasn't in the studio, but that was cool. I really loved seeing people from gen Z there and the fact that it was in front of a live studio audience, unlike Fighting Trump Debate where Nobo was there. People's microphones were muted. There was a lot of back and forth banter at your watch party. However, as you continue to state this is what politics is, and I mean my piece of feedback for some of the folks who are watching it and even who were there, it's just like, stop being conflict avoidant confidence. Hey, we're having conversations. Nobody's doing anything wild or crazy or violent, but it's okay. To be passionate about the issues, and so you continue to message that it was really engaging. And let me tell you something, My mom loves entertainment. For example, she's very new savvy as well, but she's not going to sit there and watch CNN all day long and here all this political stuff. You know, she wants to go watch Tyler Perry or whatever it's on BET but really stayed and watched it because in DC was like after midnight I think, or you know, close to when it went off, and she.

Watched it the whole time. She was like, this is so good.

Right.

That feedback from like literally so many people that texted me the next day thanking me for watching it. And then one activist organizer here that I know very very well, he specifically stated he was very very touched by the dialogue that you had with young Thugs father, and I would love to speak to that a little bit. That was a very very powerful moment and to me, perhaps the highlight, one of the highlights of the evening.

Yeah, and let me speak to the part about being entertaining. It has to still somewhat have some entertainment and some engaging and so that's the parjade of what I say. Again, this is not bragging. You know how to tell y'all time. Everybody can't do this, like be live for five hours straight. That's like doing the Instagram live for five hours straight. What you know I could do. But it's not easy at all, you know, trying to keep because in the beginning, me even having to warm the room up to get them involved in the conversation because most people come, you know, with they're kind of stiff, and you know they're used to a production, a very produced production, and okay, let's go to you, bob, and let's this and that they didn't know they could lose. You know, you saw that clear where I was saying, loosen up, because this is how this is gonna be. Like we're gonna actually really talk about this issue. We're gonna be okay with people disagree. We're gonna be okay with if stuff get valid about it, because it did, actually it actually did. Like when you said a minute ago, when you said it's okay as long as people are not getting think you said not physically, and I'm here to say it's okay if they do, Like if we got to exit you out, like on the Morri Povist Show or Jerry Springer, Let's let's do that like it's okay, let's stop putting press people when you're passionate about politics. To me, the people that should be talking are the people that are willing to die for the cause, the people that's willing to go all the way in. If you're not passionate enough, if it's not bringing you to tears like that one young lady that she's like, no, I'm done listening to you because I'm telling you what my brother's been through, well she was basically hyper ventilating. If it's not making you feel that way, then you gotta wonder what are you in this for? And it's nothing. You can go do your career somewhere else. But when you at my table, we're gonna pull all that out of you. And that's why tez on ten To me, I enjoyed doing that series, Jade, but I am better at live. I'm better at raw, live emotion, live on the spot. I don't like things edited and made pretty and shut down. People just don't watch it. Bottom line, they just don't watch it. So for your mother to watch it, I don't know what generation she's in, but for your oh right, So for baby Boomer to watch it all the way to gen Z and be tapped in the entire time, Baby, we got something here. We have something here that's just the reality. And so that makes a big, big difference. And that's what I've been trying to get people to see. Revolt doesn't have you know a lot of people that tap me in, you know to that. But we just have to continue to do the work. We keep saying over and over we want something for us, something for us, something for us, something for us, And so we had to keep doing work. Another point before I get to your question about young Thug is conservatives. Once again, Jade, they do a great job of going to the comments. This is why I keep preaching about a comment calls a comment of common caucus. They know that they have to be louder online because they don't have the numbers on the ground. So when Harrison, the guy with the white hat that was causing most problems that we had to cause security on three times, but I was totally finding him sitting there with the show like totally fine. He had been marketing.

Huh, all right, to cut you off, but you were so unbothered, like I'm so bothered.

Yeah it's fine, Yeah, I was so on bothered. Uh and that and we had we had to call security him before we can started the show. When I was totally fine, like, let him sit down, We're going to continue to have the conversation. But he had been marketing all day that he was going to be on and to go in the comments. We have got to be and this is why I keep pushing the comment caucus. We have got to understand that the truth got to be just as loud as the lies. When people say, oh, but why do you have different people on the platform, because you need to hear their opinion. But also I have no problem as long as somebody is there who is qualified to counter it. So I have no problem with a black Trump being on the stage because we got a Gary Chambers, we have a Teslin figure out, we have it. But when you don't have that and you just got one person, you know, getting an opportunity to just build off they bullshit and nobody's in the room that can properly challenge it, That's where I run into a problem. And so the conversation between Toper, who was the black Trumper and Gary Chambers about school choice was phenomenal, phenomenal, great conversation. I mean, it was just phenomenal, and we need more of that. I just want to make sure that the room is balanced. And I was nervous about that because when they went through the list of the people, because we did it in like a two or three day notice, So I was like, make sure, you know, make sure that we have the right balance in the room. Because when I saw those BLECKSI blexic. I had to tell the Bookers, Hey, just so y'all know, those are Trumpers. So we need to make sure we got regular conservice in the room because they're going to be pushing a Trump flag all day every day. So make sure that we got some Biden people in the room, some people that work for the campaign in the room, you know. Also make sure we got activists organizations in the room. Like all of that was important, and so that was a challenge to do Jay because the debate was happening in Atlanta. We were in Atlanta and people had watched parties everywhere, so right next door to us, young Black Republicans they were hosting a debate party. The NAACP was hosting One up the Street, who Attorney Griggs was supposed to be the host and stay with us whole time. One hundred black men was hosting one up the Street, you know. So there were parties going on everywhere and we were just trying to pull from people. And Tofer actually was at the party, the one with the red hat. He was actually at the party next door, and he said, hey, I'll stop by just for a minute and just kind of tap in. He ended up staying the entire time, and we put him on the couch. So it just proved that, you know, this really does work. I want more of it. I love it, more of it, and so let's keep it going. So Young Thug's dad was there to answer your question. You know, they had told me he was in the room. I asked, you know, if you want to say anything. I do appreciate his spokesperson. They got up and spoke for him, but I really wanted to hear, you know, from him, and his statement was very powerful. Whether people believe that Young Thug is guilty or not guilty or whatever. It was to hear his father, hear the father say and call out, you know, naacp right there saying I have contacted you guys, and you guys have not been responsive those other kind of conversations. See, that's when the comments section gets real, Jay, when you able to That's what I love. When you were able to be who you are and say it directly, not in the comments. I don't like that, Naa, but say it directly, naacp Atturny Griggs, y'all haven't been responsible. Well A Turner Griggs sitting right there. That's the type of dialogue that we need. You noticed the other young lady that said, well, I don't really want to say no names. Everybody went on that big, long range about saying names. At some point you got to be all right with saying names. Speaking of that not transitioning too far. I don't respect any of these democrats, These anonymous democrats that are center for talking about Joe Biden need to sit out. Who are these people that they talking about? Jay? When I was saying that others were saying a few years ago that you should have an open primary to run against Joe Biden, people killed me for that. They said, oh, you're helping Republicans, helping Republican PUK And now in the twelfth hour. In the twelfth hour, now y'all saying, oh, we need to replace Joe Biden anonymous sources. Who are these sources? I either say it with your name, with your chest and staying on business, or say nothing at all. I don't respect the jade I read it, don't.

Yeah, it was beautiful to see all those black folks in this space having the dialogues and being willing to sit, to sit in their discomfort in the moment and to really push through because everybody there, In my opinion, I think most people were there in the spirit of you know, black black progress, black apartment, you know, empowering the black voter as opposed to just telling black folks what to do on how to think. So you definitely gave us a lot to think about. And since the debate night, Yes, the big conversation is whether Joe Biden is competent or not, whether he should step down and have a seat, And you know, folks are saying it's too late for that, but it. Yeah, if you we would have just if you all would have just spoken about the debate, it would have been about Yep, Trump is lying, Biden.

You know, Biden is learn his words or whatever, so.

Right and nothing and nothing comes out of that. So I'm excited about it. People can have a different opinion about it. I'm excited about it. I'm excited to do more. Atlanta, get ready. I'm getting ready to be organized in Atlanta. Jay, you intend to push the line. I'm excited about that. The studio they said, I can have any time, do whatever I want to do. You know, we can't get three hundred people there at the time, but certainly you know, forty fifty people at a time to specifically be focusing on gen Z. Let's get these organizers prepared. When we talk about Project twenty twenty five, twenty one million dollars is being spent to organize, recruit, and train elected leaders whether Trump gets in or not. This is what I need people to understand. This is not just because if you go with that talking point, this is a Trump gets selected. This is what they're going to do. Then the counter is Trump didn't put that out. That's not a part of the campaign. Like Amburoll said that Trump. They don't have nothing do with Trump. Y'all be misled. No, No, let's lead to people correct way. This is a movement that they're doing with or without Trump, recruiting training leaders want that are in line with this guideline. This is how they've been successful with getting judges in the Supreme Court, and this is why they've been able to take over being the minority in the country. And so I just want to make sure I'm doing my small part as an independent. I'm not a Democrat or Republican. Most of the policies I believe in that which is the safety net to take care of the least of these does fall on the liberal side, and I'm not going to make any apologies about that at all. Doesn't mean I don't have any moderate or conservative views, but I am in policies because I'm concerned about those that don't have. So everybody is concerned. Some people can their self interest and that's totally fine, and then there are some people that look at a community, the community, and what's going to best serve the community. Matter of fact, I was planning to my best friend the other day. She was trying to tell her son, well, I kept telling them, you know, it's about the community. It's about the community, And I was telling I told her that it's not landing with him He's saying he don't want to vote based on being black, And I said, you have to be okay with people being self interest, but you have to show that your self interest is included in that black community. You are still a young black man, so you still have to look at those policies, but be okay with something. Just because you want to be self sacrificial and sacrifice everything for everybody else like me, doesn't mean that everybody moves like that. Some people are really gonna vote based on their self interest and that's how it should be. But for those of us that say I'm concerned about mass incarceration, I'm concerned about masscarceration, but I'm never being arrested. I don't have a feel any record, I haven't had any of those challenges, but I'm concerned about it and motivates me. So everybody has to figure out what their motivation is, how can they get involved? And so I'm going to do my part. And being Atlanta, Georgia is a swing state, It's very important and I just want to be able when it said done, Jade to say, okay, I was here. You know we did something that I can do. Little old me not funded by the organization's getting this done, but we just needed the space. And so since they're allowing me that space, I'm going to take advantage of it and you know, do what I can because people have been asking for that training. Again, I'm excited about that. Yeah. Well, this ended up being an entire podcast about the debate recap, which is great. Guys. I do want to dig in deeper to talk about Biden and standing in the race and what that looks like. I also want to talk to Jade a little bit about immunity. Uh that Trump was granted it's actually partial immunity. Some people are calling them full of minute, some people call them partial. Bottom line is it's still immunity. They're basically saying that the president can do whatever hell they want as long as it's an official act. The lower courts will determine what is an official act. But his lawyers are definitely lawyering. So I want to talk about that next. So guys, if you are listening, make sure you listen to the second episode this week because we're going to get into that. We're gonna talk a little bit about Joe Biden. Uh, and again, people want him to get out I'm gonna tell you why it makes no sense for him to get out. Not that he shouldn't get out, because he should should have got out two years ago, but this is where we are, and I'm gonna break down why it's not going to happen and why I believe the media is just gas lighting just for the clicks and the quote unquote alleged consultants. They're just putting their name after to say so that if case Trump wins, they want to be able to say I told you so, and so I don't respect it because they could have did this two or three years ago. So we're gonna talk about that in the second episode guys this week, So make sure you tap into the next straight shoting No Chaser with Teslam Fairgne Jay Herrell, and then we're gonna get in some of this other messy stuff. Guys. I know y'all saw Rick Ross's security getting beat down, so we got we got I was.

Kind of ready to talk about that today, but yeah, we should definitely got to hit on that this week.

Got to we want to talk about that right quick, but I just brought it up to close out.

Yes, So unfortunately Rick Ross was salted on Sunday night after performing at a night music festival in Vancouver British Club British Canada BC in Canada. All right, I've never been to Canada, but shout out to Canada.

I guess.

Uh. The video footage showed Rick Ross being sucker punched. You know, Rick Ross is a big dude. He was sucker punch and it sparked a brawl, possibly related to ongoing fused presumably with Drake in the music industry.

Possibly.

They was very clear, Oh no, that was that was my language. I'm just protecting everything, you know.

Okay, yeah, because there was restal clear they said turn this all off and that was it.

But go ahead, Yeah, they definitely did. I'm airing on the side of calltion. I don't know, but feel free to chime in. Despite the incident, Rick Ross told TMZ that no serious injuries were you know, were sustained, and he expressed a positive outlook on going back to Vancouver if I would him. I don't know if I would want to go back, but okay, that was really embarrassing. So following the incident, of course, fifty sent had something to say. He marked They say he marked Rick Ross on Instagram. At first, I mean, I thought fifty was being sincere. He said he was glad that they got out.

But this is a thing.

Of course, the internet slouths are on the job, and they took photos and they started to try to identify some of these white attackers that attacked Rick Ross and his security detail. So one of the guys had on a red bandana and a T shirt, and folks are saying that that is the regalia of the Vancouver Helps Angel.

This is the part where we definitely want to be heavy on the alleged, like we don't know this for certain.

Right allegedly, Yeah, that's so, I say.

Internet sleuths are saying this, and so people are starting rumors and they're trying to draw correlations between the Rocker Drake as well as this particular biker game.

So we don't know.

But right now, what I'm hearing on black Twitter is that Rick Ross was allegedly attacked by some suspected white supremacists. What I do know is that Rick Ross also made a post or you know know, he seems like he says he's okay, seems to be unbothered.

But I was just what his post on slow what is post Uh?

It was a video.

I have to pull it out, Like did he address it? Yeah, he addressed it. He said he was, He said he was fine. He was he took he took. It was an image of him in front of a private jet, laughing.

And thing off, saying that he was he was fine.

Yeah, but we did see you. But I mean, but we did your security kind of did they wasn't security in I mean, that's what I mean. I was.

I was sure. I couldn't believe, like it was so easy to you know, to get at them like that. So hopefully this is a learner lesson and he will tighten up on his security. But yeah, that that was really unfortunate over playing that song.

You know, they not like that. So man Coper.

Said, don't don't come over here playing that mass They don't want to hear it.

That's it. They don't want to hear that. It's hard. It's tough watching your favorite get dragged all over the country, you know for the song of the year. I mean literally drag everybody if you got even you have VP Harris saying it in her recap, she said it, I was like, what like from the toddlers all the way to the White House. I mean, this has never happened in the history of beats. So yeah, they was probably feeling a way about it. They were definitely feeling the way about it.

Well, also listened test.

You know, Rick Ross put out several posts and videos when the whole back and forth was going on between Drake and Kendrick, and he was laughing.

Of course, he was laughing at Drake.

He was trolling Drake and to see him get be down like that to me was like really embarrassing.

Mm hmm. You got you had taken a party embarrassment.

Yeah, I just fell back for him.

I'm like, dad, I love me some Rick Ross too, but that was not a good look. His whole security detail. I don't know if they're you know, friends, family, whoever they are. They definitely need some training, maybe even some martial arts training or some type of something because that not working.

Mm hmm. Well just go to show you. They was letting you know they ain't like us either. They said whatever, y'all, like, they ain't like either. So again this is real. See, people don't understand, you know. I'm remember the nineties in the pocket in the biggie. People take this shit to heart. So people gotta be careful. Remember I told you on this show when I said everybody out there see walking and be walking and you aren't really living that life and all you gotta be careful with some of this because piece some people really believe this shit now, so just be careful. You can't go a mile, I mean not a block Jade in La that this song is not played like literally at every stop side, every stop light, everywhere. I mean, it is literally the anthem of the West Coast that we've been waiting. It hasn't been like this since California Love, where you've just heard like back to back to back, no matter where you are. So people just gotta be careful with this and the energy that comes with that song. So be careful. Be safe out there, guys, and be careful because it ain't a song that everybody's real feelings that got hurt behind this this So we got that on that the way. Guys had a little bit of petty throwing there in the show. Make sure you tap into the next episode of Straight Shot, No Chaser, and we will see you later peace.
