On this episode of Stock Movers:
-3M (MMM) shares rise. 3M Co. topped Wall Street’s profit expectations and raised its full-year outlook, a sign that the conglomerate’s slow-and-steady turnaround effort is proceeding despite broader economic volatility. The company had adjusted earnings of $2.40 a share in the second quarter, beating the $2.25 expected on average by analysts, and expects adjusted total sales growth in excess of 4.5%.
-Halliburton (HAL) shares are mixed. Halliburton Co. sees incremental growth in North American activity throughout the year as drilling and fracking pick up in the US. Halliburton reported adjusted operating income of $683 million for the second quarter, down 6.1% from a year earlier and below average analyst expectations. Halliburton has expanded its frack work overseas, including a multibillion-dollar contract with Argentina's state-run oil company YPF SA and a multi-year contract with Saudi Aramco.
-Genuine Parts (GPC) slumps. The parts retailer cut its full-year earnings per share guidance. Management also denied reports that a competitor had expressed interest in its auto segment.
