View descriptionShare

After 62 years, Sir Peter Snell's NZ record in the 800 metres has finally been broken.

27-year-old Wellingtonian James Preston managed 1:44:04 at an event in Germany over the weekend, 0.83 seconds faster than Sir Peter's 1962 run at Lancaster Park.
