Former New Zealand rugby sevens coach Sir Gordon Tietjens has labelled the new World Series format as confusing and backwards.

Cost-cutting has seen the World Series get chopped into three divisions, with eight teams in the top flight only playing six tournaments before a 12-team finals weekend.

Tietjens says sevens is being pushed to the side.

The NZ Herald's Alex Powell wrote an article which included comments from Black Caps mainstays Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra stating that NZ20 is what they are wanting and that they want that resolution quickly.

The White Ferns have slumped to 1-1 in their T20 series against South Africa as they lost by 18 runs at Seddon Park in Hamilton this evening.

South Africa posted 177/5 and the Ferns got off to a strong start sitting at 63/2 after the powerplay.

However, regular wickets stifled their momentum and they were eventually bowled out for 159 in the final over.
