New Zealand and England have opted for the same XIs in the second cricket test starting tomorrow at Wellington's Basin Reserve.

The Black Caps have decided against including spinner Mitchell Santner.

Australian tweaker Nathan Lyon took 10 wickets in their win over New Zealand at the venue in March.

However, in Auckland's win over Wellington last month - the sole Plunket Shield match at the venue this season - only three of the 40 wickets came via turn.

Paceman Scott Boland has been recalled to Australia's playing XI for the first time in 18 months.

Captain Pat Cummins has confirmed Boland's inclusion for his first test since July last year, replacing the injured Josh Hazlewood for the second test against India in Adelaide starting tomorrow.

Allrounder Mitch Marsh will play, and is available to bowl, despite suffering soreness in the aftermath of Australia's horror 295-run defeat in the series-opener in Perth.

Marsh hasn't bowled in the lead-up to the pink ball fixture.
