From St. Teresa of Avila to the Diocese of Boise: Catholic History in August

View descriptionShare

This week on the Sunrise Morning Show, Matt Swaim welcomes Catholic historian Kevin Schmeising, author of A Catholic Pilgrimage Through American History, for a look at two important moments in Catholic history.

Kevin recounts how St. Teresa of Avila founded the Convent of St. Joseph in 1562, beginning the reform that would lead to the Discalced Carmelites and inspire the work of St. John of the Cross. He also looks at the Catholic history of Idaho and the establishment of the Diocese of Boise on August 25, 1893, including the work of the Jesuit missionaries who first brought the Catholic faith to the region.

From the Catholic Reformation in 16th-century Spain to the growth of the Church in the American West, this episode highlights the people and events that helped shape the Catholic Church in history.
