How does the classical epic of Aeneas challenge modern men to reject self-indulgence, overcome destructive distractions, and embrace their God-given mission? On The Son Rise Morning Show, host Matt Swaim welcomes back literary scholar and author Joseph Pearce to discuss Virgil's Aeneid from his book, Great Books for Good Men.

Pearce contrasts the journey of Odysseus with that of Aeneas, a Trojan refugee called by the gods to found the new city of Rome. He analyzes the famous tragedy of Book 4, where Aeneas becomes entangled in a passionate affair with Queen Dido of Carthage—a distraction that causes both leaders to abandon their duties to their people. Pearce explains how Aeneas's difficult choice to walk away from lust and embrace his duty serves as a timeless lesson for men today, offering a powerful blueprint for rejecting the modern traps of technological and sensual distraction to pursue authentic virtue and holiness.
