In Chapter 5 of Alice in Wonderland Alice meets and talks with the caterpillar. The caterpillar asks some questions that Alice cannot answer. They both talk about different things and then the caterpillar leaves telling Alice the mushroom will help her grow and shrink. Each side of the mushroom can do one of those two things but the caterpillar doesn’t tell her which one does which.
