In 1969, Don Rainsford took over the reins of the daily service programs where listeners could call in to seek advice from a vet, lawyer, marriage counsellor, or Martha Gardener, at 12.30 each day. This left an opening at 1.30pm, Don’s previous timeslot.
So 3AW introduced Tommy Hanlon Jr with a program called Tommy Hanlon’s Heart Line”.
The idea was simple. Callers would phone in with a request for something they needed or wanted, each call over the hour would be given a number, and at the end of the show a winner would be announced and their request would be granted. One wish would be granted every day.
