It’s been over two decades since the Somali Civil War first began and since then the Somali diaspora (Qurbajoogta) has grown to two million people, including the thousands that live in Australia today. These Somalis all have unique migration stories and came to Australia for different reasons.
Signal Boost Participant Najma Sambul speaks to five Somalis across Australia who provide their perspective on culture, heritage and of course their homeland, Somalia.
Mentoring support provided by Allison Chan and Karishma Luthria.
This piece was produced as part of our 2021-2022 Signal Boost feature series, where participants responded to the theme of ‘Waves’.
