SE 6 Ep 22 - Classic Album Feature - Buddy Guy & Junior Wells – Alone & Acoustic

This week on Blues With A Feeling, we open the door to a room most people never got to enter — a small studio in Paris, May 15, 1981, where Buddy Guy and Junior Wells sat down with nothing but a couple of Guild acoustics, some harps and fifty years of shared history between them. No band, no amps, no armour. Just two giants of the Chicago blues, alone and acoustic, telling the truth.

Our feature album is the extraordinary Alone & Acoustic, recorded in a single day and released a decade later. It’s a time capsule of two men who helped electrify the blues returning to its earliest form: wood, wire, breath, and memory. Across fifteen songs — from “Give Me My Coat and Shoes” and “Rollin’ and Tumblin’” to “I’m In the Mood,” “Catfish Blues,” and “Boogie Chillen” — Buddy and Junior revisit the Delta, the migration, the clubs, the lineage, and the friendship that shaped their lives.

We also bring you nine brand‑new releases, opening the show with a powerful set from Jason Ricci, Chris O’Leary, Jovin Webb, and Aaron West. In set 2, Billy Price, John Primer & Friends, Keb’ Mo’, and the late Mike Finnigan deliver soul, grit, and deep blues storytelling.

Then we settle into three acoustic sets from Buddy and Junior — five songs each — letting the Paris session unfold in real time. It’s intimate, warm, spontaneous, and deeply human.

We close the night with Ruthie Foster’s beautiful “Thank You,” a perfect final word.

Join us for two hours of new blues, deep tradition, and one of the most revealing acoustic albums ever recorded.
